Hey
I have a 1982 model 880 upright. I have had it a few weeks and i love it.
I was lookinv at picture of the Day and its 1951 royal vacuum i noticed the upright had attachments. I was wondering if the 880 had a hose and attachments.

Les,

Yes, but they were optional. At the time of the original sale, if you wanted these with your 880 you actually had to include this in the original order: 303 Deluxe Attachment Kit.

I know, my 1985 Royal 880 only came with the two extension wands.

Thanks.
I even caught a video of your 880 stark. It was short but nice.
Today i tore 880 down cleaned no polish just cleaned head motor brush. I put it back together but I missed 2 gaskets. I will put them in and re attach wires and bring back to life. I might do a YouTube video of vacuum. It runs great before tear down hopefully just as good again.

Anyone

I was putting back together i have 2 requests.
Wiring diagram.
Request 2 take pic of back wheels. I think a big spring goes on it but not sure how.
Thanks les

Request

I went back looked at ebay pics. Wouldn't you know it had pics i needed. I had almost had it right just repositioned wheels onto spring.
The big spring went on the handle base. I just need to fix wires.
There is 2 power wires from Armiture. Two wires from headlight. Two wires from power supply. Im know there were grouped in 2 wire nuts. So 6 wires 2 wire nuts. I think I can figure it out.

Power cord is positive and neutral.
Headlight is power and neutral.
Armiture is 2 power wires i believe.

Les,

And the power switch has two black (live) wires, one to be connected with the same black wire to the short cord going from the inside of the handle assembly to the motor unit, and the other one with the black wire to the longer main cord that emerges from outside of the handle.

Here's the Royal 886 parts diagram to help you; the 886 is nearly similar to your 880 but uses a 6 amp motor instead of the 4.5 amp one.

Ben

Thanks for diagram.
I got it to turn on but motor sounds noisy. I think wiring is off bottom of Armiture is too tight or carbon brushes are pressing against Armiture.
Ben bottom of motor housing is lukeva oil ring held in by 3 screws. It has the spout thing that hasred cap. What is this for. Isbit a bearing you grease or oil.
Thanks again diagram helps alot.

Ben

Thanks for the diagrams and explanation it helped quite a bit.
2 questions.
Is Armiture on d80 and royal 880 the same but royal is newer with different impeller blades?
It looks real similar imo.
My 1030z and my 880 its like i over tightened fan. I put on fans tight but not super tight. Tight enough it spins Armiture but not too loose' that you could loosen with hand.
I was wondering what could cause this? the bearings on bottom of Armiture put in too tight or if i put belt on backwards i don't know. I don't want to tear apart trying to fix screw something else up since I tend to do this.
Thanks
Les

@ben

hey.....about that handle stem lock on the 880....how is it supposed to work exactly? I have to push it down with my toe to lock and then raise up with my toe to release.....?

I'm thinking that's not its design intention...that maybe it locks itself as you push the handle stem 90 degree upright....?
