So I'm taking apart the motor from my Royal model 606 so I can try to fix the problem with the fan scraping on the metal so I can use attachments with it. And I'm looking at the armature, does this look normal? It looks like a worn spot.

Balance

It's not a worn spot. They do that to either balance the motor or to verify it's been inspected.
The armature is fine.

Misaligned bearings? That means I have to replace the armature or bearings? I've never repaired a royal vac before.

Put the armature back in the bearings (I'm assuming they're sleeve bearings) and check for play. Also check for thrust play (thrust washers may be missing or worn).

Madman, it still moves when I pull the pulley. After I put all the parts back in place. It might need a new armature.

Washers

They have washers at the bottom of two either bearing plate screws. If there is play you didn't put the spacers back.

I took apart the motor a bit more and played with it and put it back in place. The fan is not scraping and dinging now.😁😉👍 So I can now use attachments! If it has any problems again I'll give y'all a shout-out. Thank y'all.

Gabriel,

What exactly did you do that ultimately solved this problem (for now, at least)?

I mean, as you dug deeper into the motor assembly, what else had you found that had caused this problem?

I would like to think those two videos helped you.

The vacuum off pull the fan towards the front of the vacuum. If it doesn't slide your good. Remember what I said about the spacers. The spacers in my opinion are usually the only thing that would cause play in the fan.
Take pics of everything. I have tore apart about 20 royals and it's the details. Kirby's 505 d80 pretty similar setup. The classics are similar and heritages are similar. The g series is all similar.
The Kirby's have parts diagrams. Royal has Ben and Jeff. There's no parts diagrams.
In summary pictures and make sure fan isn't loose.

Vacuums get thrown and banged around outside of a collector's care. It probably was dropped or fell and the motor got jostled out of true. Taking the entire motor apart and then reassembling from the ground up probably re-seated a part you didn't notice was out of place.

I had a cheap China pride floor fan that I got out of the dump once and the motor kept sliding out of the armature unless I kept it leaned forward. I did a redneck fix on it by using some old washers as spacers to wedge the fan blade forward to keep the motor aligned. The pedestal and pole itself was bent all over so I guess it fell over a lot or got run over. Made a good air circulator for the shed anyway.
