Hi all. I'm new here and never considered myself a vacuum collector, but I guess figures don't lie. I currently own a Kirby Heritage II, Royal Dirt Devil, Royal 880 upright, and just bought a Royal 2028 upright. Have had several other old Royals over the years including an early pre-ww2 model that I reluctantly let go to fund other obsessions and keep peace with my wife.
Last weekend I bought the Royal 880 at an estate sale for $37.50. Beautiful machine in same family since new and with manuals. My wife likes it best so it's a keeper for sure. That purchase inspired a craigslist search that resulted in yesterday's purchase of a Royal 2028 complete with the deluxe tool set for a whopping $25...a steal. Brought the 2028 into my home last night and this morning had several sneezing fits. I have no idea where it has been so guess it wasn't too smart to bring a used vac into the house. Think bed bugs. Took it outside this morning, removed the bag and discovered a ton of pet hair wrapped around the twisted wire fitting where the bag joins the fill neck. A filter bag must have ruptured and made a mess inside the cloth bag which got my allergies flared up. Turned the bag inside out to clean it and now have it hanging outside drying out. Uploaded some pics to my google account of the B-bag design and the vac. Has a few scratches, nothing serious and hopefully they will buff out with rouge on my buffing wheel.
Since both machines are new to me I want to replace the carbon brushes to protect the motors from damage. I did a search for brushes online and am coming up empty on both models. There is a guy selling something that "may work" on ebay for the 880, but have found nothing for the 2028. The 2028 has a 7.5amp motor. I noticed the 2025 and 2028 share the same parts list. I believe the 2025 had the 9 amp motor vs the 7.5 amp motor in the 2028. Any suggestions for carbon brush suppliers or availability? Also not sure how to read the date code. Serial is H00A 00004491. The literature that came with it is dated 1998.
