So my new Decade 80, circa 81 maybe? takes round belt, I have Eureka belt. Is this a safe trade? nice machine.I don't remember how to decode the date from serial number
The Eureka RD belt is their round belt. It is a little thinner than the Hoover and although it will put tension on the motor and run it, you'll find much better agitator with an actual Hoover belt.
others" can damage the motor, etc... Just my STRONG suggestion. I'm not always right, but, this time, I know of what I speak.
And, when the Convertible belts stretch, SAVE them for the 28, 29, etc. They're bigger than the Convertible belts.
a Eureka RD (F&G) upright belt may look similar bit is WAY to big. go to a vac shop and just buy a Convertible belt, the Cvertible and Decade belts are the same....
I don't see the word Hoover on some belts that I had received new and loose in a package. I have only run my restored Convertible once, but this has prompted me to order the real deal. Better safe now than sorry later. Thanks
I'm in total agreement the the wisdom stated above in using Genuine Hoover round belts. I've tried the Eureka belts once and it stretched too fast and the generic belts either broke quickly or stretched too fast. Genuine belts seem to last and last and last.
It many cost $1-2 more to get genuine but after 4-6 months of use and the ease on the motor, its worth it.
but, you want belts that are embossed with HOOVER on them. I just went to Odd Lots. They had Genuine HOOVER belts...Convertibles, sealed in the factory packages. I bought all 17 packs...$.99 each. What a deal!!!! THat HOOVER paper is great. Goodyear is/was in Ohio, too. All of HOOVER's rubber parts came from them.
I was amazed to find these in a bin, on sale. Another 'suggestion': If your nelts are not in a sealed pack OR loose, I'd keep them airtight in a Ziplock bag.. It prevents them from "drying out".
Thanks again for the belt advise guys, I am cheap so I totally would have figured that the beater just slips sometimes. New daily driver is all I can say, its a pretty machine.Wish I still had some Hoover fragrance tabs for the top slider on that green bag.
