Does anyone have a newly discovered method for repairing Hoover outer bag snaps that either were pulled out of their "socket" or ripped to the edge?
Here are my thoughts so far:
I thought about sewing a strip of vinyl on the inside of the bag edges and then reattaching new snaps with a snap gun, but while in theory this seems logical, after giving it some serious thought, I realized that a sewing machine needle or manual needle will actually create a perforation and air pressure when inflated will cause it to just tear again over time like ripping a payment ticket to a bill. In fact, if Hoover had not made the perforation (the holes throughout the bag) go right to the edge the outer bag snaps would not have pulled free. It may have been better had they left edges solid and fused a reinforcement piece of similar or heavier vinyl to the edges where the snaps would be attached.
I also thought of using adhesive to attached a piece of vinyl on front and behind the hole, but it has to be an adhesive that will bond to the vinyl and cure properly because some adhesives could dissolve the existing vinyl and just make matters worse.
I also looked at Velcro or hook & loop tapes but most say not to use with flexible vinyl. And again, the adhesive can become unstable and get gooey and move around and then just let go again.
I think the idea is to create a backing behind and in front of the hole so that a new snap can be attached.
AND THAT IS THE QUESTION, What is the best method If there is one?
