Removing the Piece from a Kirby 519

How do you remove the side piece froma Kirby 519 in order to access the motor screws ??? Is it press on, or do you have to turn, or just tap it off ?? Thank you !!!

Its a twist on fit.


You should be able to grab the top opening on the edge near the machine and then grab underneath on the side farthest away from the motor, and pull on the bottom outwards. It will twist off.


You may need some wd40 or some form of lubrication. Thats one corroded 519!
 
Mind your knuckles though, put them in the wrong place and you could crush them, as I have done many times removing stuck emtors from my Kirbys... :S
 
I used liquid dish soap on my Heritage to lube up the emtor, since I didn't want to put WD40 on it, but either will do. :) Put some lube on and tip it backwards so it seeps in, the rubber gasket can really hold that sucker on!
