Dear Vac Friends:
I just last week stumbled across and am now restoring a Regina Model 59 straight suction upright. It is pretty darn fabulous. The only down side is that the original bag is long gone and, with it, the totally cool muffler within. I've made a replacement with colors to match the fabric jacketed hose.

The most recent patent is dated 1941, but styling and some materials suggest to me a post-war/late 1940's. DOES ANYBODY KNOW FOR A FACT WHEN IT WAS PRODUCED?

Much obliged if you do.

Marty Kaplan

By the way, and I hope this isn't yesterday's news, but, I just discovered that the U.S. patent office web site provides instant access to ALL patents (drawings, descriptions, etc.) going back to 1875 (give or take). Just flip over that old Hoover, type in the 7-digit patent numbers and have some fun!

I believe I have four....

Well of different models. I have two maroon baged ones. The pleated bag was my grandmothers and still runs great and then I have a none pleasted one. The other two are the tan and tan color but I think they are from the 1950's I think. I am not sure of the other two. Does anyone know?

I've got a model 59 too. Unfortunately, it doesn't run. However, I also have a model 39 that runs great! I'd like to hear some informaation on dates too.

Wow, I had no idea Regina was still making straight-suction uprights in the 1950's. Beautiful looking machine. Looks more like a 1930's design. When did Regina stop making these machines and concentrate all their efforts on Electrikbrooms?

Well Hello there Marty!

Hope you've been well since seeing you in St. Louis. Thanks for the great pic and birthdate info for your 59! I've finally finished rebuilding mine and I've been doing the straight suction mombo around the living room all day. Clearly my hose set is much older than yours. It is black fabric with a gold stripe. It includes a one-piece wand, painted black, a black fibreboard crevice tool, a horsehair, wood, rubber and black painted metal dusting brush and a floor/wall brush of the same construction. I see yours has a blower adapter, an upholstery nozzle and some kind of super-cool-looking venetian blind brush.

Yours,

Marty

I have a nice Model 59 Regina also. It was given to me about ten years ago by my friend and fellow VCCC member Hans Craig. I entered it in the cleaning contest for straight suction uprights, fully expecting to win in 1997 in Cleveland. (The categories were somewhat different then.) I was surprised that although it cleaned well, it was soundly trounced by an Air-Way upright belonging to Tom Gasko. An interesting observation I made about the machine is that the material of the bag looks identical to the gray material of the early 1950's Kirby bags.

Model 59

Guys, the pictures in my owners manual show a slightly older version of the vacuum that i have. Perhaps the model 59 was a long running model like the Electolux XXX?

The larger stainless steel looking thing is the moth attachment. It's called the Reginarater. It fit through the round hole in the top of the attachment box.
