Hey there! I picked up this Regina ElectrikBroom today at a thrift store for 10 bucks, and I'm pretty pleased with it so far. It's noisy, but does a pretty good job for what it is. I am curious as to when it was manufactured, I know they were made from the 50's through the late 70's, but I'm not sure on this one. It does not have a rug adjustment knob, and has a 2-speed motor. Can anyone give me an approximate year on this vacuum? Let me know if more pics are needed. Thanks!

I think that is from

The late 80's early 90's because of the short cord, no adjuster, wider nozzle, the writing on the motor housing. That was towards the end if I'm not mistaken, if I am someone will correct me. Best of luck with it as those were in most households back in the day. Cheers!!! Mark D.

Hate to say it

But this broom is going back to the thrift store. It's a total nope. I've done all that I could to clean up the motor and inside the housing, and yet it still runs like a hand mixer from hell. LOL. There's also something nasty inside the nozzle and in the fan housing that I cannot remove no matter what I try. YUCK. It's some reddish-brown crud. I don't even want to guess what it is. Thank goodness the thrift store has a return policy.

Regina broom

That is of 1986-87 build and looks to be in very good shape on the outside. If it's loud 99% of the time it's just the fan. Removing the bottom 4 fan housing screws will reveal if a fan blade has perhaps broken off but you can remove the retaining nut pull the fan off and you will most likely see crud built up under the fan. Try cleaning all that off and re-inserting fan and try it. I have done that to tons of these brooms and they usually run much quieter after. As for the crud awesome does wonders on that. Either way I would hang onto that as these are getting very hard to find and all they would probably do it throw it away anyway.

well,

This old bird is back at the thrift store. I did go through and clean the fan and housing the best that I could, and it sounded fine for a little bit. It then started to sound like the brushes were eating away at the commutator. There were blue sparks flying around inside the motor and it made this awful screeching noise. I think that it had a hard life before I got it. I just don't think that particular Regina was my forte. Ah, well, there is a place here in Boise that has ElectrikBrooms all the time from what I've heard. I will continue my search there soon.

there is a happy ending

to this story, however. I realized shortly after I picked out the Regina yesterday that there was a Sears-Craftsman Powermate hand vacuum sitting on the shelf with the other vacuums. I was talking to a friend yesterday, and he said that the Powermate is a fairly rare machine as well. So, I exchanged the Regina today for the Craftsman. I'm so excited! It's a pretty neat little cleaner, noisy, but awesome all the same. It looks exactly like the Kirby Vacuette/Douglas ReadiVac (Kirby enthusiasts, help me here) and I believe that Oreck offered a similar machine for a short time. The Powermate sounds a lot like a Dirt Devil hand vac, but I'm not sure how it compares to a DD. I just need a belt, then I can put it to the test.
