After visiting at great length at the convention with Victor Lee, he happened to pass on to Marty Rocha that I've been pining after a Regina Canister for many many moons. After a few pleasant conversations back and forth, this is what this awesome man sent me....

As I unboxed it.... I was like this is it..!~!!!!! HOLY #$%%

Thanks Dear Marty, your a true blue, as you did something for someone whom you've never met in person. I love it and as you can see it's sit with the big boy's!!!

Chad..

I've linked a photobucket of the pics of the new kids for everyone to see... rather than waste bandwidth storing them on here...

Great regina Cahd, It was so nice of Marty to send that to you, I love how nice it is when people who you have met do something this nice for you.
I also didn't know Regina made a canister vac.

Sam

Chad, what a nice looking machine!! You are so right, both Marty and Victor are great guys!! If I'm not mistaken I think that at one time Regina also had a canister much like that one with a power nozzle.

OMG

Yes that was such a nice thing Marty has done. I havn't seen one of those in ages, a neighbor of my aunt had one and would not part with it. I later found out that his wife got a new Hoover Elite in 1991,a short time after I asked if i coul buy it, and he thew it out =( said he forgot i wanted it. Anyway congratulations and enjoy your new prize.

Replies from me...

First thanks everyone for the replies...

Sam- Yeah Regina made canister vacuum cleaners thru most of the 1970's, up until 1978 or so. The usually had a few different models, e.g. above mine for example has an automatic Cord Reel with a chrome upper body, and the Rug Pulse Nozzle rather than the earlier nozzle mine has, whereas the one below it had no suction control buttons and a smaller motor, and different attachments, with the smaller Rug Pile dial nozzle.

Later after 1973, they had a TOL version that had a Power nozzle that they created by using their complete Nozzlehead from their Brush and Beat Upright , with a rigged up metal wand, instead of the handle/dirt-tube and bag assembly that came with the Brush and Beat in upright form. There were two versions that I know of... One was A Dark Red and Grey , and a Medium blue and Grey.

They had a normal hose with the wiring within, but had the cord running down the back of the wand to Power the Brush and Beat head. Also, both models of this kind came with headlights too..

A final Regina canister with a power nozzle came along in 1977, with a Douglas Power Nozzle and was called the Regina Duo-Vac. After this Regina kinda gave up the ghost on the canister market, and they continued to be sold under the Regina, General Electric and Black and Decker models in Canadia.

Terry- You're right, Marty and Victor are really true blues. I'm so glad I was fortunate to meet Victor at the Canton convention. Thru him he put me in touch with Marty Rocha, and thus sent me this machine you've seen here. And when at the convention Victor was such a great help when it came to moving my machines from one room to the other, and lading them in and out of the car. Another example on why it's so great to be a part of such things...THe great people you meet!!!

Pete- Yeah a little canned hammish, I was thinking the old square Eureka Princess style canisters the ones that take the H bag tho....

Dave- No my friend, they go to the BIG boy the Regina Cyclonic LOL!!!! Actually you wouldn't believe the content of various manufacturer's you can see in this machine. The canister end looks VERY GE in nature, for all their canisters and mostly the Swivel Tops. The wands are pure Eureka and in fact that was the only thing it came without. But I have several old Eureka wands, so i was ale to fit one up in a jiffy.... It uses a very generic upper handle elbow, and two generic hose cuffs. And the hose was a vinyl coil hose that was used on many other lesser kn owns like Sunbeam for example back then too. So in theory yes that nozzle could be used on a Eureka...

Thaks for your replies...

Thanks Chad - of course I meant to type REGINA since that's the thread subject but I guess with all these maker's names swirling aropund in my noggin these days...well...anyway I have two of these Regina nozzles with the big dial, different sizes I think. I'll dig 'em out tonight for a photo session.

Chad, you are so right, "The Great People We Meet"!! I have said it before, for me the vacuums have become secondary, it's all the great people I have gotten to know through this club that is most important!! Terry

Terry,

I agree with you that the vacuums end up being secondary to the great people we meet through this site. When I first stumbled upon this group last year it was all about the vacuums to me, then as time went on it was more about the people I have gotten to know, even though I haven't met or talked to alot of members, but I am very impressed with everyone's kindness and generosity here.

Chad, I mis-remembered. I have just this one. Which means the other one is at the Petrolia Junk Barn in a box under the table...

I have no Regina so it's yours if you want it. Maybe Pete will find the other one...

I luv the PATIO setting. :-)

Crap, can't post the pictures here in Vintage - I'll put 'em up on the Contemporary page

My mom purchased a similiar Regina model in the early 70s. It was the TOL with the chrome lid, 3 push buttons for air flow selection (located on top of the chrome lid), full bag indicator and cord rewind. The tools stored inside. It was an awful vacuum. Soon after she bought it she discovered that the wands would not stay together. She would be vacuuming the carpets and suddenly the 2 wands would come apart. If she pushed them tighter together then it was impossible to get them apart. Also, the cord kept rewinding slowly on its own she you constantly had to pull it out. Also the bag indicator indicated a full bag all the time even after a new bag was used. And finally the rug nozzle cracked at the opening where the lower wand was inserted. She had to duct tape it to the wand in order to use it. She had purchased this vac to replace her aging Filter Queen but about a year later she went out and bought another Filter Queen. The Regina is still at the cottage and good for vacuuming out the car but that is about it. I remember a friend of my mom's purchased the low end model of the Regina and she had the same problems with the wands coming apart.

I was poking thru my 73/74 Consumers Distributing catalog and they sold some Reginas, a plain round wastebasket looking canister and 3 canisters similar to the above but more angular. Scanners not working :(

Did you not have that catalog out when I was over for my visit with you and Dave??? I seem to remember a catalog or two on the coffee table when I was there? If so I don't remember if and of them had the Brush and Beat Power head or not. I do remember one catalog having a couple of Swivel Top Canisters with the power heads....

I hope to be seeing you in a few weeks. As soon as Daves second toy comes along, i should be making my trek up there....LOL

Regina carpet nozzle adjustments......

Just curious.....Regina seemed to be the only one to provide special adjusters on their suction only carpet nozzles - two for "edge cleaning" and sometimes two other sliders for "Air Pulse" (I guess Regina's version of Eureka's Vibra-Beat action). What was the purpose of having the ability to turn these features on and off? I mean, did these adjustments ever make any difference in how the Regina carpet nozzles cleaned? And was it really necessary to precisely adjust the bristles for various carpets using that Rug Pile Dial? I could see needing that on an upright, or a two-way adjuster for carpets versus bare floors, but was such a fine tuning pile adjuster really a helpful feature to have?

My mom's Regina had the slide adjustments for edge cleaning as well as the dial adjustments for bare floors and different types of carpet. The slide adjustments would turn off the airflow at the centre of the nozzle and concentrate all the flow at both ends instead which did work OK for doing edge cleaning along baseboards, etc. The dial adjustment when in bare floor position would lower a felt strip at the front of the nozzle and also put the rear brush strip in the lowest position. When the dial was set to low/med./high for carpets that would raise the front felt strip completely and then set the rear brush strip at various heights. I found that if the dial was set to low it would eventually creep its way over to the high position just because of the force on the nozzle.

Chad,, ya, I don't think any of the vacs in the CD catalog had power nozzles. The ge swivelops in the Canadian tire catalog did iirc.

btw you can drag Rusty with you kicking and screaming if you have to LOL

Actually once we know what day.. if anyone else wants to drop in please do... anyone from SW Ontario or Michigan.

All that's holding up the confirmed date is the arrival of my Mayers cylinder from New Hampshire to Ann Arbor. Received notice today Wednesday that it is in the hands of Fedex as I type. Fingers crossed as I track it that it might just display DELIVERED sooooooon.
