Rebuilt Electrolux?

Model AE

That's a Model AE, situated between the LXI and the AF. It appears in very good condition. The bag chamber looks great!

Bill,

I think you may be right. That looks like it may have been rebuilt by Metropolitan Vacuum Company. The wands would not have been painted if it were rebuilt by Electrolux and the tools are exactly what Metro used in there Electrolux rebuild. I don't believe the halo on the back would have been paited by Electrolux either, again making me think is a refurb.

Normally there was a metal tag or sticker placed on the machine indicating it was a Metropolitan rebuild. The box also looks like their packaging as well.

None the less, it looks to be in good shape!

Just my observation.

Yes, a rebuild!

And as Morgan has mentioned, most likely Metropolitan. The 'halo' on the back for cord storage is not Electrolux, theirs (Lux) was smaller and more 'fitting' to the machine and was chrome. These larger, painted, bell-shaped add-ons were definitely after-market. It is indeed an 'AE' or
'Automatic E' ( as opposed the the 'E') and was manufactured for a relatively short period of time, 1956 and into 1957. They are great machines! Hopefully this retains its original, Lux motor as opposed to a replacement (Lamb) motor.

Model AE

Looks just like mine except mine is missing the halo. Great vacuum--lightweight, quiet, and lots of suction. I've been doing searches on eBay for Electrolux vacuums, and there are lots on there. Wish I could bid and win them all!

I don't mean to throw a wrench in the

gears, but - That's a model AF kids, not an AE, it's got the anti-tip overs made of steel unlike the AE. It's been painted with the aftermarket Hammertone. You can tell by how rough it is. Everything else mentioned by youze guyz* is correct though.

Rick

*youze guyz - one would have to have been originally from New York then moved to California to know what theis term means!

It's got black

wheels too. From an "E".
I must apologize too for spelling this incorrectly in the above post. Bill, how did the "G" wheels turn out?

My error

I received an email correctly pointing out the error I made in identifying this machine. The hammertone blue on this machine is misleading, as it looks like the original paint from an E or AE. However, this is an AF that has been repainted (rebuilt by Metropolitan, as it was told to me). Look at the skids on the front wheel. They are angled - the AE had flat horizontal skids.

I didn't notice that before, but I did notice that the "Electrolux" on the side is white. It should be yellow, but I thought there might have been some variation. That lettering was white on the AF, yellow on the AE, another sign that the machine has been repainted.

I apologize for my error.

It's interesting to learn that a company seemed to specialize in re-builds. The thing that caught my eye was the painted halo. All the ones I've seen on the net are chrome. Rick, I haven't had time to work on the wheels but will after Thanksgiving. I don't have a vise, but I have a friend who does so I'll get him to help me with drilling out the axle. I'll let you know how it goes! Bill
