Rare Westinghouse.....

Yes,

I saw this machine on the bay a day or so ago, and noticed amost immediatly IMHO that it could be crowned one of the ugliest vacuums ever to roll out of a vacuum factory.

The first impression that I had of the machine was that it looked like a carp, with it ungainly looking chrome mouth and just unflattering lines. My second though was again some water borne creature that lurked in a large pond that ate small children as they swam, representing some Stephen King novel.

However....on the upside, this machine is SUPER Singer'esque, with dual fans, and a horizontal motor. The brushroller is even similar, although the air-ducts seem to be on the very edges of the brushroller opening, rather than slightly inset like Singers are. It even has a dual throat bag neck, and does have a paper bag, that most likely is a castoff of the Eureka F&G Singer style paper bag option, that by the time this mahcine was into'd was well in use by the two other firms.

It is mint, and besides that horrid white replacement cord, of which I believe the original was either a grey rubber affair, or was the same plumish color of the body...should provide for one collectors buy of the century. It's certainly the first one I've ever seen, and I've now been collecting vacuums for over 16 years.

Whatever the case...it's darn ugly to me..... But one that In a better time, and money not appropriated towards a new computer and paying off some bills with my tax return, this ugly little devil would be a great addition to my collection of vac oddities like Singer, Sunbeam, Premier, General Electric, Apex and etc.etc.

I would have loved to drive over to Detroit to pick this up.

I've had my eye on the Westinghouse since it was listed but with 4 whole days to go it has already passed my limit. No point in gooseing it any higher now - it's a rare treasure. The first bidder is a shrewd collector and I hope he gets it - I know exactly how he's feeling about now as he re-examines his discretionary funds. Maybe one of us?
It has some of the same design elements of 40s & 50s Concept Dream cars.
Btw, I have a coppery plum 25 foot cord that would look right nice on that machine.
