I am currently restoring a family members g3 and I noticed that when the unit powers off you can hear a rattling noise. I think it might be a problem with the bearing but I'm not certain so I just wanna see if any of have heard of or had this issue and can help me out.

That is normal. The tech drive or the self propelled mechanism has plastic gears that overtime will become worn and will ride on each other. Probably can replace it but if it is still working just leave it.

Rattling noise

That sounds normal to me-at least from I can tell from listening to a recording. As long as it propels forward and reverse it should be fine. Often times the sound is emitted from the transmission winding down. I really wouldn't worry about it as long as it seems to operate just fine.

Sounds like the transmission is a high mileage unit, but that’s okay. As the others said, if it propels fine, I’d leave it. Transmission noises like that just come with age/use.

Parts

If you go on eBay there is tech drives. The gearing in g3 and g4 are a little quirky.
I had apart a g4 g6 and a later sentria. The belt number is one number off. If you open the transmission there is no difference.
