Rare Senior!

I've seen this on eBay a few times, but it is coming to an end in 17 hours, so I thought I'd post a link here to let you guys know about it as I'm sure a few members here would be interested in bidding.

Its not THAT rare

It is surprising just how many of these 612s (and the Junior 119 of similar vintage) are still around and working - there is hardly a wekk goes by on ebay when there is not one or the other listed. The 612 motor and a lovely sound as well, one of the most smooth sounding you will ever hear.

The problem, particularly with the 612 is to get one with original bag, and with both is that the rubber hand grip gets brittle with old age (remembering that these are getting on for 60 years old) and literally falls apart.

Bear in mind a lot of the 612s that you see on eBay are often the same one being re-listed due to no bidders!

Although I like the smooth sound of the 612's motor, I prefer the rumble of the 600W motor in the Ranger! I was thinking today as I was using the Ranger - It sounds a lot like a V8! Really, it does, ha ha.

I used one of these as my daily driver from 1981 - 1992, bought new. It could never compare with the 612 in terms of noise - or even the older "convertable" (652, 652a etc) models - that plastic hood actually amplifies the noise. It had the bearings replaced around 1988 (yes I was surprised by that too) and before that was done the noise was unbearable.

PS I know that it had already been replaceed in 1981 but I preferred this to the newer style with no headlight and the "pan" tools cponnection

I still need to figure out why my United states version, the 61, has a goldish hammertone base, and not the chocolate colored one like every other one I have seen....

It looks more like the 612 than anything.
