Rare Kirby...

You don't see these every day! I know of one person with this model, thought it was really strange when I first saw it because of the handle switch. That must've been the one and only model with that feature.

There were actually (at least) five "switch in handle" Kirbys. I have a later-model version of the Scott & Fetzer Sanitation System with a sani-emptor and switch in the handle.

Then there were four "R" models corresponding with the four "C" Models -- Model C & Model R; Model 2C and Model 2R; Model 3C and Model 3R; and Model 4C and Model 4R. The "R" models were sold in department stores with attachments but without the portable handle.

Can you imagine if the Kirby Company would do that today - sell a stripped down model in department stores. The girls would be squealing like they were at a slumber party - storming into Wal-Mart to buy their Kirby.

Didn't some time ago WalMart tried to sell Rebuilt G3,4 Kirbys rebuilt by a third party other than Kirby?Never saw these-but remember reading it somewhere.

The only Kirbys rarer than these would be the COMVAC series and the Janitronic/Super-Sweep series.
