Oh derp! Ok so is there a visual way to check? Especially since I have slightly dirty lower fan? My dealer said I could put vinegar in it to soften the water. Any other quirky things or tips and tricks?

I have hard water

here in Lexington. I've never added vinegar to the water - I've heard you could add jetdry rinse aid to the water - but only ONE or two DROPS (otherwise you will get too much foam) OR - you could try Rainbow AQUA WET (if they even still make it), which is their own version which is supposed to make the water (wetter) to trap more dirt. But you really shouldn't have to do any of that as long as you're changing the water before it gets too nasty and keep the separator clean, like literally a toothbrush in the grooves. I've only changed my hepa once in ten years. I'm on my second hepa still.

I spoke with another Rainbow distributor today. He is also certifed to work on them. He said when vacuuming that he fills his up past the center post typically 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch. He then said that when using it to Air purify he fills his atleast 1/2 inch. Which makes complete since on that part because if you look closely its almost as 50% of the air never makes contact with the water if you just filling it to the top of the post for air purify.

Now the vacuuming is interesting. I tried a 1/4 inch and I cant tell a difference in power but it did seem to capture more dust in just the 30 mins prior that I ran it on air purify mode.

He also aid jet dry is okay to use and he said no more then 2 drops. He said it works.

What are your takes on the water level?

In this case

I would trust Rexair because they know what they are doing. If Rexair says fill it to the center post - that's what I'm doing.

Sirena on the other hand - I don't think they know! They say fill the min line, but I email them and they say you can fill to min, med or max. It makes no difference. Min is not enough water yet their instructions on use and care specifically say min when vacuuming.

I always tell my customers to just cover the center bubble. There are other dealers and distributors out there that tell people to fill it halfway up the bubble. Reason is so they can charge the customer for a cleaning every 2-3 years. Apparently those people haven't put any thought into the words bad business. A good dealer and or distributor will be honest.

There's no way I can use the machine with water at the full line on low speed. It's not even gonna last a few hours.

I checked mine several times today and if I fill to the top post covering then the water is slightly above the full line. If you go 1/8 of an inch or 1/4 of an inch the it's just making the machine heavier. I also theres nothing wrong with being slightly too full but don't go crazy. I think the full line is the best performance but I also wonder if they are trading weight for MAX potential. I'm sure that Rexair has tested this significantly but I'd love to sit down and talk with there great minds about it.

All 3 techs I talked to said that on low speed I could add more water above the full line. It's not affecting anything with the motor as far as I can tell. I woke up this morning with water below the opening and not bubbling. Also if you put water only to the full line on low speed then it starts to make the water oscillate back and forth. When the water goes back it's just sucking air that's not being pulled through the water as much so there is less contact.

I'm sure that the jet dry is why marks rainbow is so clean!! They all agree with that.

I would love more input on this. Very curious to see what others have seen.

I've never been able to stand the noise my rainbow makes on low speed. It's like this weird pitch like you're getting an ear test or something. Not bad at first, but it becomes maddening after a while. It has always been this way. On high speed, it purrs. There's nothing wrong with mine at all. I think that's just the way it is. Luckily, I don't have a need for low speed. Honestly, I don't even think it can possibly do much with so little air going through the machine. Besides, if I vacuumed and dusted my house with it, there's no need for it because you already got all or most of the dust.

Well I can tell you that 99% of the houses I been in have way too much infiltration. So anything can help clean the air but surprisingly there's some evidence that the air coming in through cracks is basically being filtered by the dust that stuck to the sides where the air is coming in. The Rainbow isn't a very good air filter on low speed when you compare the number to other units but the other are al tested on high speed. The rainbow really doesn't get to be tested like that. I'm going to run mine while the pollen counts are high. I can put it in the den and it should be great for down there. Other things to consider are dirty ductwork and ac coils, leaky doors and windows, pets and attic penetrations into living space. Seal all that up and clean the duct work and you could fix a lot of dust issues that way.

Interesting fact I've come to find is that I can go several days with no to little dust on my tv stand. The a friend or someone might come over. After that or the next day the dust and substantially increased....
