Rainbow E Series, what am I missing?

@mark40511: That picture is bad, mine is worse. At least the dust stops at the opening...mine is ALL around the cavity where the filter fits. I didn't take a picture because those sorts of pics rarely come out right, but it's pretty bad.

You have done an excellent job of explaining how to do this. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Wow thanks!

Funny how there are subtle differences in the one speed and two speed E series. I know that the ONE speed has the internal cooling filter but the two speed doesn't. Now you can get rid of someone else's filth. The motor looked super clean though

The motor and upper case were very clean. The only dust in there was carbon dust from the brushes.

I did a lot of the cleaning tonight, and will finish it and reassemble tomorrow. It's amazing what you can get done with a brush and baby wipes. :)

Oh, and speaking of a brush...besides the motor and upper housing looking so good, guess what else looked brand new? The brush and wrench for the separator! I imagine the previous owner never even removed it from its storage spot.

Carbon dust? Oh yes, that's not brushless is it? I keep forgetting the one speed isn't the brushless motor.....

Yea.....The person probably never cleaned the separator. Interestingly enough, the separator on that Rainbow looks different than on mine. Mine is all one piece and a tan color and there was never a brush that came with mine to clean it.

At least you know there isn't any motor damage from dirt. I didn't see the round motor cooling filter in the video and you didn't mention it. I'm sure that would need to be changed. It looks like a BIG round car air filter.

The filter is there, and I suppose it might need a change, but looking at its design, it looks much more likely that it's intended to minimize carbon dust going out than keep anything from coming in. I'm pretty sure I'm right because the filter is dirtiest from the inside, and the outside is snowy white.

Gotcha!

I still can't believe how bad it looked in that picture of it in the back of your car. I mean, it looks like it went through pure hell.

Oh, that one wasn't mine...Brandon_W_T posted that as a pic of one he used to own. The one with the stink he could never clean out of it, previously owned by a Rainbow salesperson who badly mistreated it. I'm pretty sure that one was an E2, it looks like one, if really rough.

Mine looks rough too, but not quite that rough! :)

Whoops sorry for confusing yalls.

The rainbow in the back seat of the SUV is the one I Had. Thats how I got it. It looked gaud awful, but cleaned up to look very nice, just a rotting smell! :S

Oh sorry

I wasn't looking at the user name and for some reason I assumed that was the pic of you bringing it home. LOL

I meant to ask, what are you going to do about the wands that are missing?

Hey Troopersam

How about the PN? Did you take it apart? I know those Rainbow PN's have a screw on them that you turn, but I think they can be taken apart further as well.

Truth to tell, I hadn't even considered the PN yet. Once I get the main up and running, I'll take a look at it, but I used it the other day, and it worked nice with a clean brushroll.
