Hi,

Was there ever an adapter made to fit the chrome-dome Rainbows with the three-prong power nozzle outlet that allowed for reduction to a two-prong connection?

YES THERE IS

I actually stumbled on one not too long ago it is a genuine rainbow power cord that had instead of three prongs had two that would fit into the three prong outlet boycotting the middle ground plug and then on the other end of the cord was your standard two prong end I have it here somewhere when I find it I will take a picture. And since we are on the topic I was wondering if anyone here knows how long they used the three prong plug on the D2 because mine has only the standard two prong but I have seen both thanks? Zach

@goadie12 . . .

Thanks for the reply Zach. Wish I could help but I've never seen a "chrome-dome" that accommodated a power nozzle with anything other than the three-prong receptacle that first came out.

YES!!!

Yes, I have an adaptor for my 'Gold D'. I know I found it at an online vac shop, but I can't remember which one. I will try to find it and if I do I will post the address on it. I think is was like $15 or $20.

For the record:

The very first D2s (from 1974) were fitted with a 2-prong receptacle for the power nozzle; from 1975 onward they used 3-prong receptacles, but by the end of production in 1979, some of the 1975-79 D2s were converted to 2-prong receptacles.

The first D3s (which replaced the D2 in April 1980) still used the 3-wire receptacles for the power cords, but the D3C switched to a 2-wire receptacle.
