Rainbow D2 Brushroll Help

Looking to get some help. Got a Rainbow D2 from eBay today. Appears to be in overall working shape, just needs a lot of TLC. First thing I took on was the power nozzle, thinking it'd be easy. It came with two R1024E units, one of which was apparently disused due to a broken motor mount (as stated in the listing). Well they actually both have a broken motor mount, which isn't too big of an issue as I'm sure I can fix that. The problem I'm having, however, is that in my attempt to take apart the brushroll(s) I fear I may have ruined both of them. At first I couldn't figure out how to get them apart, and after getting the one bearing plate off I tapped the shaft (with a piece of wood, of course) in the hope the whole thing would come out like a Kirby brushroll. Well, it was only after a few good wacks with a hammer, and the shaft sunk, that I realized the huge pulley on the other side is actually reverse threaded (maybe the hammer knocked it loose?). So now I can't seem to get the side of the shaft that I hammered to poke back out, therefore I can't assemble the brushroll. Have I ruined a perfectly good brushroll, or is it actually all one shaft like I suspected and the wood has just swelled and made it very hard to move? Would really appreciate some help. I can post pictures if needed, and will definitely post pictures once this restore is finished.

Those P/Ns are Eureka made units. Personally I'd recommend getting a Eureka VG1 (flat, helical shaped aluminum brush roll) from another P/N and using that instead of the wood one. Those black painted have oversized black ends, I've seen them put too much strain on the housing and break things.

I'm fearing I may need to buy another one, but I'd really rather fix this one. Does anyone know if the brushroll shaft goes from one end to the other?

NO. the those brushrolls are designed to be taken apart and replaced as an entire unit the rubber endcaps really arent designed to come off until the VG1 as mentioned above. VG1 brushrolls for power heads are very hard to find as new replacements. a vGII or III are much easier to find, have replaceable brush strips, and metal beat bars.

it would help if you posted photos of your problems. its VERY hard to diagnose things off symptoms with no images of what your dealing with.

Will, thank you for the information; I really should have done my research first, but I can't change that now. All is not lost, though. After a couple hours of fruitless fiddling and plier-ing, I managed to get one working PN out of the two. I had to cut into the otherwise really nice label, but it's not extremely noticeable and was worth it in the end. It now runs fairly well.
But, after all of this, I almost want to upgrade the entire hose and PN, as the wrapped PN cord with clips is just extremely awkward, and the Eureka-made nozzle just seems out of place on an otherwise fairly well made vacuum. I've done some research, and am I right in believing I can use a Rainbow D3 or D4 hose and PN with this D2 as long as I have an adapter so I can use the 2 pin hose on the 3-pin connector? If that's the case, I'll stay on the lookout for a fairly cheap set, as I think that will give this thing a major usability and performance boost.

As for now, I'm happy with it as it is, and will make a separate thread showing it off soon.
