Quietest vacuum

In my collection is definitely my old XXX luxes! The new Aerus Guardian Platinum is extremely quiet as well, but I don't have one of those yet personally!

Quietest Vacuum

Has to be Nilfisk GM or Miele even with the PN on a low setting its very quiet. The Nilfisk has very deep sound

Thats an easy one!! LOL

Lux model 30 has got to be the quietest vac I own. My 61 or 62(not sure of exact year) Lux G has got to be a close second, even with the old PN-1.

My 6.8 amp Sebo X2 is one of the quietest vacuums in my collection, along with the Hoover Constellation 858.

Hmm I see a lot of people voting for the Electrolux Model XXX and Model G. I have both...need to pull them both out and compare noise levels! The XXX is a bit noisier when it’s afterfilter is removed as my afterfilter is likely one of the originals so I pulled it out as it seemed kind of icky. Both of these machines are so quiet that the suction sound from the tools can be louder than the motors. I can see how the hospital G someone mentions could be even quieter...with that big filter on the back it would muffle the noise even further than the standard G metal back ends pre cordwinder do.

I have to say I’m disappointed with Aerus’s modern day classic Lux and Lux Legacy canisters...they are noisy making that high pitched whistling sound most cheap vacuums make in the last 20 years.

Noisiest vacuum anyone?...maybe a new thread...my Brother has a giant Rigid Shop vac, horrifying the noise must wear hearing protection....I told him to give the thing away and buy a shop vac brand...he doesn’t use it that often due to the horrific noise even with the optional muffler attachment which seems to do nothing.

Quietest: Miele S8
Loudest: Eureka Precision (Bravo rebadge). Yes, this is the loudest I’ve ever had, and I do own a 10 amp Commercial Royal.

Quietest: Most early Sharks. They seem screechy, but with good bearings most are actually quite quiet.
Loudest: DD Featherlite direct air. Even with a good fan and bearings they are loud, but with a chipped fan they are truly deafening.

Yes, bad bearings, dried oil, broken or loose fan, can all contribute to excessive noise and vibration. When it happens to a vacuum you know and use every day, it's how you can tell something is not OK with the motor, as it sounds different than normal (i.e. louder).

Now sometimes, yes, mostly with compact vacuums with tiny motors or high power vacuums with high RPM motors they can be loud just to be loud by design on purpose.

Philips P74 Electronic

This is easy.
By far the mid 80's Philips P74 Electronic.
It has almost none motor sound. 90% of the sound is airflow running trough the vacuum.

I was at a customer’s house and her housekeeper had a Miele going...with it’s power nozzle which was either turbo driven or battery powered....the entire thing was incredibly quiet, I could really only hear the sound of the air going through but I was not terribly impressed with the job the power nozzle was doing...didn’t seem to be making the carpet look nicely groomed...perhaps it wasn’t running properly or at all or so slowly it wasn’t able to do much. As a result my impression of Miele as a thorough and efficient vacuum for carpet was not a positive one.
