Quietest vac for all surfaces

Hello, after some careful googling I found this site, I am in the market for a new vacuum cleaner. I currently have a year old kenmore progressive canister that ran about $400, it cleans well, and has some decent attachment and on board storage, but it's loud. I live in an old apartment, most of which has low pile carpet, the kitchen is slate. I would like to be able to clean early in the morning without upsetting my neighbors. I have two large dogs that shed, so I vacuum at least 5 times a week, and shampoo the carpets every week, so I would like a unit that is up to the challenge. I need a powered upholstery cleaner, I have found the air driven ones do not work very well, and a HEPA filter.

I have looked at Miele, sebo, and aerus, I can't find any mention to the price point of the aerus vacs online, but I do have an aerus dealer nearby, the others are about an hour away.

Also if someone could talk to me about the dry carpet cleaning methods, that would be greatly appreciated.

The only vacuum that comes with an electric powered upholstery tool . Price range anywhere between $700.00 to around $1200.00 for TOL Aerus Guardian Platinum which I own and it's ver quiet . Read the thread about my new Aerus vacuums . You can call any Aerus branch and they can ship one to you .
Rainbow offers an electric one also so does Filter Queen .

Dan are you sure about that filter queen electric nozzle? I've only ever seen the air glider for their current machines. I have seen the Mini pow-r-nozzles before but weren't that for the past generations of Filter Queen?

As far as i know neither Miele or Sebo offers a mini electric nozzle i know one can be gotten for Riccar/Simplicity canister but their main power nozzle is loud due to the agitation.

It seems to me you're seeking super quiet as I don't consider Kenmore Progressives too loud but it depends on the model and the power nozzle motor. Some of their older power heads were very noisy. If you're seeking super quiet and excellent cleaning then I recommend the Electrolux Ultra Silencer. Terrific cleaners and they have several models to choose from. Some come with the available Electrolux mini electric power head and some it would be an additional accessory to get as with most machines on the market. Definitely a machine to try. Since you vacuum every day and have 2 large dogs, you may be a fan of the small bags on these units.

Aerus and older style original Electrolux canisters would have a slightly larger bag over the new brand of Electrolux line. Aerus/ older style Electroluxes are built to last fairly well. But do aware of the some of their power nozzles with the very thick plastic wands as the necks on power head have a high tendency to break. Power nozzles on Aerus are very quiet, but I also feel that they're not as powerful as some others for deep cleaning. Suction units of Aerus are fair noise level. Many Aerus canisters come with Sidekick electric mini power head.

Riccar/ Simplicity canisters are excellent cleaners all around. Built very well,I'm fairly certain they have a mini electric power head and if not the Wessel Werk Werk should fit. The suction on these Riccars is tremendous and they will do a good job at running air turbine hand tool as well. Most of the time I run my suction unit at medium power on my Riccar, its extremely quiet with still a powerful punch at that level. Riccar/ Simplicity power nozzles are definitely louder than Aerus and Electrolux, and Sebo heads but they're very powerful and clean well. I still wouldn't call them loud though, the noise doesn't carry nearly as far as you think. Any canister vacuum you own would be significantly louder than many uprights to include Orecks, Kirbys, most Hoovers.

Sebo canisters are very quiet, large bag capacity,long cords. Sebo's website does not list a mini electric head accessory for their canisters. Sebo's hose size and hose wiring connection will not allow for another manufacturers attachments or hook up for electric power head. The Sebo hoses have thin rectangular prongs for electric connection compared to most manufacturers rounded head electric prongs. Suction is good, not as powerful as Riccar, Simplicity, Aerus. I think the power nozzles are very weak on Sebo. Personally I would avoid this one. My experience with the machines of theirs that I've tried has not been positive for cleaning performance or ease of use.

Miele is an excellent canister. Well recommended by all in the industry. Powerful, reliable. I have little experience with them, so I can't personally say anymore but others I've heard from highly recommend them.

You might consider looking into a separate corded hand vac with revolving brush roll. I have a Hoover Sidewinder hand vac and Dirt Devil 103 corded hand vac and love both. I feel they do a better job and are easier to use than PowerMate Jr. attachment on my Kenmore canisters.

So, after doing some extensive checking and researching on the electrolux ultra silencer, I drove to the nearest vac shop that stocked them, which was almost an hour away. I was very impressed by how quiet it was, you could vacuum in the middle of the night and not wake up someone in the next room. However, I was unimpressed with the plastics used in its construction, and it felt kinda cheap for the $600 price tag, those things aside, I could see myself buying one if I had a dealer in town that could repair it, but I couldn't see driving two hours to get parts or service. Also, as Durango159 suggested, I looked into some older electrolux models, but I have a thing against buying certain items that are used.

I'll be looking into the aerus platinum as it seems like a nice unit, but a quick call to my dealer says they are $2,000. I am also going to be looking into the Miele S5 earth and Callisto

Well, I may be late to the party but I actually find Miele's canister vacuums to be quieter than SEBO. However, avoid the "eco" power models as these tend to be higher in the noise levels.

I have two Miele air driven small turbo brushes - the smaller one is very powerful (STB20) and its not as loud as Miele's "standard" Mini turbo brush. See review if you wish.

i have a Miele s4 Capella and i use it on the 3rd to highest setting, i just use the upholstery tool it comes with i have 3 dogs who shed/molt contiguously and it dose perfect it removes it all by the 2nd pass
