Quick Tool question....

Hey guys

Ive won these on Ebay(thought they would go nicely with my 707) and have a question .

Apparently they come with the box and are #1031. Other sets ive seen have been white- is it the wrong box or is this maybe an early set. ????

Hoover tools

I wouldn't necessarily say an early set, but Hoover did make some sets to match the Convertibles, usually matching the base (nozzle) color. From the looks of the instruction book, I'd guess early 70's. Tom Anderson or Jeff Parker would be able to tell you for sure.

You have gotten an early 1031 set. They came out with the model 1030 from 1972. Those Convertibles (1030, 1076, 728, 593) all had the taupe colored bases and handles. So the early sets came in a taupe color and continued in 1077 and 1031 models until around 1975 when the color went to white. The late 60's sets (1061 and 1011) started in a dark dark chocolate and then changed to a light chocolate by the time the end of the run came. Hoover did not always change numbers when they changed colors! The white sets seem more popular because those were given away more frequently when you bought a machine especially the 1031 set. It was part of different promotions. Congrats on the set though...I find the taupe sets are harder to find. The one set I don't have is the deluxe 1077 set...those are very scarce in ANY color!

Thanks for that- they will be pretty much the right set to go with the cleaner then - Jeff told me its a 71 example (22407) so I guess it was made before this set came out, but later 707s would have been sold with it.

On the subject of serial numbers do you have any listings of these/approx dates?? the 1010 is also fairly low (74158) and has the metal rating plate.

These are the 1011 tools I won from Ebay a while back- from your description a later set???

Hi this set will do fine as long as it is a hoover convertable. Please dont look for high suction it will not happen.In other years they made a plate that attached to the front unit had better suction. Hope this helps Doug

HiHow did you do with the tools? I hope it worked out i guess you noticed the poor suction. I had a Hoover model 65 that i loved i think think the convertables did a wonderful job on rugs. I have a friend who worked for Kirby he always said and still to this day thinks those units do a fine job. But when it comes to cleaning tools the Kirby blows the Hoover out of the water. Here is my later version 1061 deluxe set of tools. The earlier version had the flatter box and darker brown colored tools. These were meant for dusting and light cleaning...they were DESIGNED that way. If you wanted something to suck your face off, then you bought a canister. There is just enough suction to do some light cleaning like on bare floors or couch cushions. The problem was people wanted these tools to act like a canister when it was not meant to be used that way. The narrow channel on the converter was to protect the fan from large heavy objects passing through it. I use a set like this with my late 60's Convertible 1070. It is just perfect for my carpeting and my hardwood floors with the tools.

Here is the cheaper set known as the short set model 1011. The color of the tools leads me to think that both sets were made later in the run around 1970 or 71. The little fabric brush was a nice item. It comes in very handy when dealing with dog hair!

Tool Suction

Ive not got this set yet, I know the suction isnt the greatest BUT is fine for dusting, upholstery. hard floors etc, as Tom said thats what they were designed to do .

Thats a VERY nice 1061 set , the box looks in excellent condition!. Over here the Junior came with the "standard" set and the Deluxe/Senior came with the deluxe version-with the exception it had 2 seperate extension tubes not a telescopic one. Also, as you know all our sets came with the Hooverflex/Ultraflex hose.

I wish we had kept making the Ultraflex hose on the Convertible tools like the original 6500 set from 1957. The Toughflex was durable but not very user friendly. The hose was always too short for the cleaning task. Otherwise, the rear conversion tools are much easier to connect in a hurry and you don't have to shut the machine off to connect them. Some folks let the machine run with the front conversion, but you are not supposed to do it that way according to the instructions. Just my two cents...
