Questions about my "new" Electrolux Model G

I picked up a model G the other day, for a bargain price. It is the later tan model, not the turquoise. I was wondering 2 things. First, what power nozzle would this have had? I know it should be a PN1, but what would the color scheme be? I didn't see any on eBay that matched this machine's colors. Will this be hard to find since this color scheme wasn't around long? Also, I was wondering if anyone knew where to get a plastic electric hose for this model to replace the cloth leaker. I've found a few online, but they were in the $60 - $70 price range. Was hoping to find one cheaper.

Man, this machine runs excellent, is quiet, and the bag eject still works! I had to test that last night. Awesome machine! I've only had the later Electrolux metal canisters until now.

Originally it would have had

A white pn1, with brown trim , gold lettering, and a white plastic wand, This one is a factory rebuild, So it would have come with whatever power nozzle was current at the time of rebuild, painted brown hammertone to match the machine.

I didn't think about the fact that this is a rebuild and may have come with a different power nozzle in it's second life. Is there any way to tell from the number on the rebuild sticker and plate when this was in for it's rebuild?

Although it's not as garish a shade of gold, could it have been rebuilt during the mid-'70s when the Golden J and Super J were current? If so it may well have shipped with a PN2 or PN4 and it's likely they wouldn't have bothered to paint since it the standard polished finish goes with anything. There's a little teal knob on the front that makes me wonder if perhaps the whole thing may have originally been teal.

Bronze G with its matching PN. The other thing I notice about yours is the placement of the PN plug. typically on every other bronze G I have ever seen the plug is down, right in front of the front wheel on the side.  That must have been a modification made during the rebuild. Also notice the color of mine that is in factory original condition.

Model G

Great vac and very nice condition.
It is not gold but brown that puts the rebuild in the Olympia era at about 1980-82.The machine would have been rebuilt with currant colors and any needed parts including cord,power nozzle outlet,etc.Attachments would have been new and same as Olympia or others. At that time I recall the rebuilt being packed with standard hose and no PN.If the PN was wanted it was supplied from branch stock and the standard hose changed to pigtail electric.For yours to have standard hose with strap cord might mean that a customer moved the cord and power Nozzle from a different Elux.(A swivel lock should have been added at the machine end to prevent the hose from rotating and straining cord.)

Hello All,
I have Tan G that has had the PN connector removed from the bottom and installed on top. I don't know why a shop would do it but they did. I have the Aqua G with the PN Connector below the bag fill adjuster on the front. I do not recall seeing a Tan G with the connector below the bag fill adjuster. I have also seen the Aqua G with the PN Connector below in front of the wheels. I have a LX that a shop must have modified for a customer with a PN connector on top. The Aqua G I have had for 20 plus years and still use it, the others less than 6 months. I need to see if the LX will still puss the bag out and turn off. I remember rebuilding lots of XXXs (Lux 30s) and other models up to the G but I don't recall ever working on the LX bag ejector.
I sort of remember adding PN connectors to LUXs that were newer than the LX and older than the G when I worked at the shop.
The Tan G is sort of beat up but has a good running motor and the LX sounds really good.
If I have made any misstatements, please correct them.

Hello All,
Regarding the Tan G I see that some had brown wheels and some had white wheels. Was there any particular reason for the white or brown wheels or for that matter even the Tan G? When I worked at the shop I only remember repairing and painting the Aqua G and I have no memory of ever seeing the Tan G.
Good luck with your Tan G and hope you can find the right PN. Having the right hose has to be a plus.

So I liked the model G so much

that I bought another. Found a turquoise model online and I couldn't pass it up. It also came with a couple hoses and a lot of accessories, including much earlier Electrolux pieces. The only thing that's wrong with this one is that one wheel had been replaced with a white one. I have a feeling I may be looking for the right one for a long time.

The last accessory I have pictured - is that for shag or for something else entirely?

The only thing better than 1 Mo G is 2!

The shag nozzle was an option from the late 60s and later when most vacs had to use other nozzles and adjustments to clean the latest carpets. Nice selection of hoses and attachments with uncommon early rug nozzles.

Tan G

Here is my Tan G with the correct power nozzle and sheath intact. The above PN looks like the sheath was replaced with a metal tube.


Chad and I have been finding quite a few Gs in general lately.  Photo was taken from the VCCC convention. I've reorganized my collection with metal shelving and it looks much better! I wish I had thought of that before the convention.

Beautiful Model G, Kenny! And yes folks, it's all original -- off-white hose with pairs of gold stripes and curved metal handle with brown plastic suction relief. Brown wheels, off-white bumpers. Off-white combination floor tool with brown bumper guard. Dusting brush off-white with brown "wings." Off-white PN1 with long plastic sheath and brown bumper guard. Cord was the standard gray plastic cord of that era.


 


The only thing that I see that's amiss is the plastic clips for the power nozzle cord: By the time of the Bronze G the cord was attached with rubber straps that had eyelets.

Jimmy - I thought the included attachments were nearly as cool as the machine. I know the cast metal ones are early, just not sure when though. They are neat though - especially those early flip over floor tools. Before this I didn't realize that there was an earlier version!

Kenny - beautiful G and PN1. Also that's a gorgeous 1205 and PN2. That's a pretty power nozzle when shined up good like that. Just looked through recent mail, but didn't see the newsletter. I'll check everywhere thoroughly tomorrow before I'll officially say I haven't received it.

Charles - I've been really wanting to lay my hands on a Hospital G ever since I first found out about them. Come to think of it, it was on your site! I already like the pleasant tone of the regular G, but I want to hear the hushed whisper that the hospital version is supposed to make. That ashtray in your pictures is really neat. How would someone have aquired that? Was it a promo giveaway or maybe a salesman our distributor prize?

Re: Replies #6 & #7

#6 - The aqua G underwent at least a couple changes in its 1961 to 1966 run: one was the relocation of the pn port from the front of the cleaner to the side; the other of which I am aware is the addition of the cord clip at the back of the handle.

The PN-1 power nozzle also underwent some changes during the aqua Model G's run: from one long white cord from the cleaner to the end of the power nozzle—held to the hose with plastic clips to two shorter teal-green ones that connected at the hose's handle—held to the hose with vinyl strips; and a circuit breaker was added. The wordmark font was also changed from sans-serif to serif and the text 'power nozzle' was added—perhaps at the same time as the addition of the circuit breaker. A clean-out port on the base of the pn was another change.

#7 - White wheels on either the tan or aqua Model Gs are replacements. One neutral color for them would have been more cost effective than two or more (for other models).

Ashtray--These were awards to managers and salesmen(or women as Elux wanted to hire more lady "Belleringers'in the 60s).A story I heard was that the wife of an Elux executive had a hobby of ceramics that led to several different items.I have seen blue G on ashtray,tan G with PN on ashtray,a rug washer,Super J on ashtray and flat ashtray with newer Elux logo.Anyone seen others?
