Question regarding Cyclo Vac Central System

Okay Vacuum folks - I have a question. Back in May I had a Cyclo Vac Central Vacuum installed in our new home here in Utah. The model is 615 HX with DataSync. In July the power unit would shut off in the middle of cleaning. It was determined that a short in the hose. CycloVac sent a new hose and handle. This morning it did it again. Only will stay on for about 30 seconds and then shut down.

No indicator lights came on such as change bag,filter, call for repair. I called the dealer who said that he thinks it is a hose or the thermal switch. The unit is not hot in the garage. (then again it is 35 degrees here today)

The problem occurs regardless of the attachment, such as the power nozzle or floor brush. He said he remembers seeing a service bulletin regarding a problem with the DataSync but could not remember the details. He went on to say he would call CycloVac and see what they will do.

According to my paper work the unit has a 15 part warranty and 5 years labor. What is your take on this very frustrating problem? Did I make a poor purchase? This system is top of the line so I thought and the warranty was superb...so I felt okay with spending the money on the unit.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

So does the powerhead shut off as well or just the central unit itself?

Power head

does not turn off when the power unit does. This hose is a pig tail not a direct connect.

Well then the hose being the problem seems less likely i know there are seperate sets of wires in the hoses for both the low voltage and the powerhead. Knowing that leads me to believe that it may be a circuit board i think most modern ones integrate the relay and transformer into a circuit board.

That does not sounds too good. I am waiting for the dealer to tell me what CycloVac has to say. I agree I do not think it is the hose. Very frustrating!

indicator lights?

Do you have the system indicator lights on your inlet valves? I have seen a similar issue with Airvac systems where for some reason the indicator lights don't communicate properly and cause the vacuum to shut down. What I have done in the past is just disconnect the indicator from every inlet valve and that has solved the problem. I personally don't use those inlets on installs since I found them to be a nuisance.

No lights at inlets

My system does not have any lights on the inlets, just on the handle. As of today it will only run about 10 seconds and shuts down. Pulled out the Filter Queen - but very frustrated with this system!

Hope they get your problem fixed without any hassle. This is a good example of too many bells and whistles, mother boards, ect. Sounds like its something related to the mother board, circuts, ect. I had a basic simple Beam system with 4 inlets installed in my home in 1990, and its still going strong to this very day. Have NEVER had a problem with it. Have the basic hose for the garage and car, and the basic Electric hose with the pig tail to run the PN, which is a basic 1970s Eureka PN with a Vibra Groomer brush roll. There is no switch on the handle of either hose, and Has never given one day of trouble. All 4 inlets still work perfectly, and so does the motor and filter. Makes me think all of these fancy doo dads (as Grandma used to say) arent really necessary and will cause trouble sooner or later. All my unit has is an on and off switch. The unit comes on whenever contact is made with the hose cuff when inserted inside the inlets in the house.
Id tell them to take this unit back and bring you one WITHOUT any computers, mother boards, "brain",,ect. Tell em all you want is a simple reliable system.

WOW - this has been frustrating. The dealer spoke with CycloVac and they will not replace the unit - but are replacing the circuit board and hose. I am going with this as really not much I can do about it. I wanted them to replace the entire power unit as 4 service calls in less then 6 months seems like a lemon to me.

Brian - funny you should say that - I too was wondering if I should just go with a simple system. The issue I have is I like the 4 speeds the system is great on my oriental rugs and throws. I also liked the it told me when to change the bag.

The dealer offered me a MD Silent Master S44 - but it is only one speed and a lot more noise. The power unit is in my Partner's work shop so something that did not cause a headache when running was very important.

Part was ordered today - has to ship from Canada so I am guessing 2 weeks and then I have to get on the service schedule for the repairman to come back out and install it - generally 2 - 4 days after the part arrives.

Did you ever get your problem ironed out with your Cyclovac? We've sold them for years and have had a lot of trouble with PCB's. The hoses have improved and so have the PCB's. Unfortunately there are no machines left with the old transformer/relay motor start...I wish there was
