Question for you Electrolux Experts.

During the last run of the wooven hoses a rubber sleeve was added to the pistal end of the hose. I first thought this was a great idea and thought the rubber sleeve was added to protect wear on that end of the hose so the hose would last longer. Here's the thing. In my opinion, the hose end did not last any longer. The end of the rubber sleeve facing the wooven hose seems to me to be just as prone to wear as it is even a little narrower. Anyone have any thoughts? Am I correct in my thinking as to why the rubber sleeve was added to the hose?

I agree with your reasoning of the sleeve's purpose. I'm wondering, though, if it were added as a repair, or if it were originally made like that at the factory. Maybe both? I think I remember seeing an Olympia One hose with a sleeve, and that would have been far from the end of the woven hoses.

The hose protection sleeve was added midway through the run of the Olympia One. I believe that all the Lake Placid machines have the hose without the sleeve. Once the Olympics were over (America sat them out that year - ask Jimmy Carter why) and the Lake Placid sticker was removed, is when I believe they added the sleeve as the instruction manual changed and pictured the sleeve on the hose in that second version of the Olympia One manual.

Yes, the hose protection came during the middle of the Olympia One. I think the models that had the elevated front handle. I have a Lake Placid model and it came with the sleeve. However the sleeve is smooth. Have not seen any others with the smooth sleeve. The only other sleeves I have seen on that model and models after were textured sleeve. I personally dont feel the sleeves have helped preserve the hose ends at all. My hoses with the sleeve have not lasted any longer. Just my opinion. Very interesting though! Electrolux vintage are my favorites!

Yes, the hose just wears out at the end of the sleeve rather than at the handle. Good idea, but needed to be more flexible, it was too stiff to do what was expected of it.
