Are all the parts here to make coffee and how do you use it? Is there a filter required? Is it safe to watch it brew with the lid off? How do you know when it is ready? The two pots were really hard to get apart. Do they get soft when the coffee is brewed?

Hi Shag Your kitchen or mine?

My favorite brand of coffee is Eight O'clock original whole bean which I have ground for me, so let's brew some coffee. How about a slice of applesause rasin spice cake to go with that.

Hi, yes it looks all there, the seal will soften if you wash in warm water and lube it with some rubber seal like easy glide is one we have here or if you can't find that use a little washing up liquid. Fill bottom tank with water to fill line, firmly place top tank on top have inserted the filter put med. ground coffee in top pot AND PUT THE LID ON. Plug in let water boil up to top pot, unplug remove lid stir once replace lid and coffee will vacuum back into bottom pot. Not sure about this one but some have a keep warn setting. Sorry this is a bit rushed.

Funny, I just bought one of these! It's a vacuum pot. The water in the lower bowl is heated and as steam is generated it forces the water into the upper bowl where the coffee resides. It is at about 200 degrees and it will remain there until the pressure in the lower pot drops. Generally takes about two minutes.

The pot is missing the cloth filter. It appears to be a sunbeam c30a circa mid 40's. you fill the lower pot, position the upper pot making sure the filter is hooked under the funnel. Add a fairly fine ground coffee, push the switch to high and plug it in. In about 8 minutes you should have some good quality coffee.

If you do a google search on the C30 series you will find lots of info.

You have the stainless steel mesh filter there so you won't need a cloth filter. They do make some wonderful coffee. There is a seller on eBay that has been selling newly molded replacement bowl gaskets if you need one. The gasket makes the pot so much easier to use, getting the upper bowl mounted to the pot is much easier when it's flexible. If you do use any conditioner on that seal, make sure it's food safe.

Warning!

Once you've had vacuum-pot coffee, it's hard to take any other kind of coffee. So rich and smooth. Enjoy, you got a great deal on that one!

Filter cloth - I was looking again at the picture and it's hard to tell if there is the filter-frame for the cloth filter or the lower part is the stainless filter mesh that makes the cloth unnecessary. They did sell the stainless filter as an accessory, is that what we're seeing here? I have both downstairs, I'll have to go pull them out tonight and see how they differ.
