Question about the bag to this heritage III

Hi all.

I just picked up this heritage III and the bag has thrown me for a loop. I’ve seen some other modes with this same bag, but I’m not sure if it was a semi-popular after market replacement or what? It has no emptor on the bottom, like some of the other bags I have seen. It also has a place to put a bag at the very bottom, but I’ve never seen a Kirby bag that would fit it.

Anyway, looking to restore and polish it up real nice, would just like some insight into this bag.

That's the infamous aftermarket F&G Conversion that vac shops sold to many users who didn't want the mess of a shakeout.

They use Eureka F&G bags, but I prefer using Hoover C bags since those outer bags were always too small to accomodate an F&G bag.

A word of caution about that Kirby F&G conversion bag - they rob the Kirby of it's airflow. The F&G bags clog up quick. Plus, the paper tube can tear on them.

I would second Mike's advice to use a Hoover C bag in it for the Hoover Convertible. Whenever I have used a Convertible in the past, they always seemed to keep their airflow a bit longer than a Eureka with a F&G bag. However, if you want modern filtration & performance, I would get a Sanitaire ST filltube & use the HEPA Cloth bags for that model. The filltube fits on the plastic tube that a Eureka F&G bag goes onto, so in theory it should fit & work just fine on this Kirby conversion bag.

You could also look into converting your Classic III into using a Heritage II Mini Emtor, bag, filltube & bag adapter from a G4, and using Kirby HEPA Cloth bags. However, since you don't have the original bag or bag topper, you would also require the Heritage II handle & bag topper. So it would be a lot more parts & work than just putting a Hoover C bag in or using Sanitaire ST bags with your current conversion bag. Plus, since it's red, it keeps the Classic III looking at least somewhat normal LOL.

Thank you all for the replies. It definitely threw me for a loop when I opened the bag up, haha. Looks like I'll be using the Hoover C bag's for now!

Nice-looking Classic III 2CB. As others have said, the conversion bag kit on this was desired by those who didn't want the muss and fuss of the original reusable shake-out bag and Sani Em-Tor.

However, it had a huge drawback in that the architecture of the bag system didn't flow well when the stuff you picked up went into the paper bag, as it tended to reduce suction significantly.

If you still want disposable bags for this, you can change this to a Heritage II Mini Em-Tor setup.
