I used my Miele Plus tonight and realized there was a symbol on the control dial that I didn't understand. I like this vacuum sooo much! So quiet, and just inhales the dirt.... it even works well on the bare floor even with the power nozzle and no bare floor tool... if it had integrated wand wires, it would truly be a perfect vacuum, but for 20 bucks, I can't complain too loudly.

Anyway, that symbol that is on the dial, what is it supposed to be or mean?

It means that the motor's going fast enough that it might just pick up a ball and actually hold onto it.... :P

(Only kidding, I have no idea, maybe it's to indicate the setting for using tools?)

if you look at it closely

you will notice it looks like a Purse/wallet/whatever americans call a bag or pouch that ladies carry money in LOL. I can never remember what its called there. We know them as Purses although the main bag a lady carries with her other things is known as a Handbag here.

It just relates to the "Daily Econonmy" setting for Everyday Vacuuming. To save power if you just touch up areas daily.

Hey Guys,
do you know what that symbol means? it's a coin being put into a moneybox! It means an energy saving setting!
Hope this helps!

Wow... thanks guys. I had no clue! I would have never guessed in a million years. What a strange way to depict that!

I'd imagine the ear symbol would be a "quiet" setting?

Just looked at my S316 and it too has the same symbol at about the same setting, no idea why I'd use it, but it's there...

Economy Setting

Miele vacuums are so powerful (have yet to use anything with better suction, not even my Filter Queen), that the economy setting should be more than enough for the vast majority of cleaning tasks.

Sparstufe

Indeed "Economy Setting" = Sparstufe.

This symbol reappears on many more other (even non-Miele) appliances here (as long as they were built in the 70s to 90s).
It is supposed to depict a minimalistic piggy bank (square with a funnel shaped coin slot), alledgedly to avoid the profanity of depicting a real chubby and grinning pig.
This round blob would be the coin then.
Have no clue who was the one to design this or on what funny stuff he/she was....

The German brochures tell something about "....strong enough for everyday chores but saving you money while being more silent. Only for extra tough jobs you might want to pull the dial up to maximum power".
