Last summer I went with Arlee to see the Queen Mary ship which is permanently harbored in Long Beach. The ship is now a "floating museum," if you will, of the ship's history. Many old appointments and artifacts are on display, including...

What year is this?

So did the Queen Mary always have Hoovers? What year was this comercial? Did Hoovers then come out with the double hooks for the long cord?

Double Cable hooks.

Hi guy's.

One of my favourite machines this. The 912. This machine looks to date from 1949 till about 1965-66. May be a little later.

Double cable hooks as far as I am aware and according to the genuine hoover parts lists I have from 1964 were not available on this machine and so I can only presume that these were special order machines for the QM.

Taking a second look at the bog, I would hazard a pretty safe bet at a 1960's machine here.

VintageHoover, Jack has one of the production machines in his collection along with the 912A which replaced it, of which I have one also.

Equivalent of the 913 in the USA.

I remember vividly seeing that one when I was there and thought the double cord hook was interesting!

Being the ship was put out of service in 1967, that would still have been Hoover's heyday, so I'm betting there were pretty much always commercial Hoovers on board. I'm sure Buckingham Palace is or was full of them too. What is it the appliances say there, "By Appointment of Her Majesty the Queen" or something of that nature.

Here's another picture

...like the one Charles-Richard posted above, but larger. It shows them using a Hoover 160 [our 150]. Also, in the corner you can see another person using a Dustette on the upholstery.

Seeing as the cleaner is being used in a commercial situation, I would argue that it's probably a 960 as opposed to a 160...I'm sure the Queen Mary would have gone for the top-of-the-range model, not it's domestic sister!

And it's interesting to see the double cord-hooks on the 912 - my 912 just has single hooks, but my 925 has double! I suppose the extra-long flex was optional?
