Other than this one image I can't find much on the internet about this one, what's the history behind this machine and does anyone here have one?

I have a Powermax Supreme, love it. Parents got one for their wedding in 98 from grandma, gave it away about 10 years later. 11 years after that when I started cleaning for my other grandma I found one on ebay and have had it ever since. Works great, recently had it serviced and it runs better than new I feel.

That's a very nice S3611 PowerMax Supreme canister that you have Martin187! That machine is circa 1994- 1998

The original picture in this post is a Google image from a Craigslist ad that I saw years ago and is still passing around Google. It's a small photo and hard to tell the exact model color of that unit. What I can tell you is it has the variable speed slide switch on the hose handle along with bare floor on/off and vacuum on/off. The tan hand hose of the color sets the machine to earlier than 1998. That was Hoover's worst hose material that they ever used on a canister vacuum. The black hose material that followed on later PowerMax and Futura canister was drastically better. The particular hose material on the one shown was known to crack, kink heavily, gain permanents bends easily and even tear easy.

PowwerMax canisters in general:
25' cord with rewind
12" dual row bristle brush agitator--- same brush roll as Hoover Elite uprights
low profile PowerMax branded power nozzle with headlight and usually with belt view window
4 piece on board tool set
Micro Filter under the dusting brush to help capture motor carbon
Covered tool storage
Plastic smooth tread on all wheels which wasn't great for traction
Excellent overall deep cleaning and carpet grooming.

Parts:
Hoover S bag
Hoover 38528-011 belt
Hoover 48414081 brush or 48414051 for prior to 1997.

Motors varied greatly over the years. Early 1991 era Hoover S bag canisters had a 10.5 amp system rating
Mid 90s were rated at 9.8 amps, like Martin's S3611 PowerMax Supreme
There was a 9.6 amp at one point
The last generation excluding Windtunnel were all 9.3 amp.
*** All Windtunnel S bag canisters were 12 amp and quieter than the 9.3 amp PowerMax units

I love PowerMax canisters and have had many over the years.

The TurboPower 5000 and the green Powermax Supreme are probably my favorites! When did you get the turbopower? The 6000 PowerMax would be pretty cool to have with the gold plated hoover logo on the power head. I liked that Hoover had kind of a thing for thr gold bases in the 90s. Looked streamlined and futuristic.

Agreed, the tan hose was atrocious. My mom had to replace the hose after only a year or two of owning her Powermax, and then she made the jump to Kirbys. When I bough mine it had duck tape on the hose, so I replaced it with another and that only lasted for a few months before that cracked. Eventually I was able to find a black one with the speed selector on the hose, so I switched to that but put the tan handle on it.

I got my TurboPower 5000 S3577 about 3 years ago off of eBay. I also have the 5000 that followed which was the S3612 PowerMax Deluxe style. I got the S3612 last December, it was a trade in at a friends vac shop.

Cool find on the PowerMax 950 from Craigslist. That's an era of Hoover that I have little history of and don't know model numbers for. I'm not good with all the options for levels of machines they had at that time with the 810 Legacy, 950 PowerMax, 850 Spectrum, etc. Would be really cool to see catalogs of that time from 1987- 1994.

The 6000 was model S3613 , it was rated at 9.8 amps and on the market till about 1998. It had the same feature set as my PowerMax S3603-040 of the same time.
