Oh no! I am so sorry to hear of what happened! That's just about the worst thing that can happen. The important thing is, you're alive and all that stuff can be replaced in time....the one thing that can't be replaced is YOU, and thankfully the fire didn't get you.

Best of luck with finding a place to live and rebuilding your life.

My condolences to you Rex. We just also had a similar experience at my grandfather's cabin earlier this year. A pipe from the bathroom upstairs bursted sometime during the winter and it flooded the entire place. Everything had to be gutted and completely renovated which is a real shame cause that's one of my favorite places ever. It'll feel a bit different cause we're doing some slight changes to the cabin. One of them is we're not putting new carpets inside, it's all going to be barefloors with some area rugs. Wish we were putting new carpets inside since I'm a type of person that loves carpeting but I understand the reasonings why we aren't doing it this time. And this is one example about Kirby today is more homes are switching over from carpets to barefloors, it'd be hard to convince consumers today especially my grandfather about why they should own a Kirby. There are many other options that can be better suited than Kirby for those types of homes. Even my grandfather's Kenmore would do a better job. Thankfully that one didn't get thrown out from the flood since it was missing for a while but I'm not sure that it works though. Pretty sure it survived but I think the Dustbuster from inside may be a goner. But if the Kenmore lives, I'd like to see if I can retire it for something else. However the insurance won't pay for any replacements inside when I originally thought they were going to and my grandfather still wants the Kenmore since he says that's the best vacuum he's ever used. I did recently saw that Target had the green Kenmore BC3060 200 series on sale for like $169 I believe but they were out of stock. If I see more of those in stock at the same price, I'll probably get one to replace his other Kenmore. But I do prefer the design of the orange 81214 model more, just I don't feel like they're worth spending over $200. Maybe for the red BC4027 model but definitely not for over $300. We'll see though. I do know that my aunt will be giving me her Rainbow E2 Gold so instead of bringing it back home with me, I could just keep it at the cabin to either replace the Kenmore or at least store it as a backup vacuum so my grandfather wouldn't have to go out and get a brand new machine. Speaking of Kirby, if I could give any of my machines to my grandfather at the cabin other than the Rainbow, I can let him have one of my G4s'. Still alot better than buying a new Kirby. At least we can all agree on one thing, a Kirby is better to have than no vacuum at all.

here we go with sentria 5 on the horizon...... I'm also sorry to hear about your home. Someone once said to me that "things can always be replaces, but peoples lives can't".

hate to break it to yall

but its called avalir platnium and its still black with grey accents now, Someone commented with a picture on kirby's fb page and the picture hinted it was called "avalir platnium". I guess kirby didn't want to add the number 3 because they knew it was to much. Supposedly something is new with the shampooer, which seems to be the only thing that ever changes with kirby. 6 years for another accent color change... I'm sorry but thats just pathetic.

I cant even call this sentria 5 because it’s not even a real color scheme change. From the 2 images i saw on the web (fb and kirbys website, both images show the lower half the machine, so i can’t tell if im looking at avalir 2 or a new avalir. To me it looks like a combination of avalir 1 and 2. I say that because it looks like the handle centerpiece is back to black (amy winehouse reference) but yet the belt lifter is still black (avalir 2). It also looks like the blackout kirby that was a trophy unit from a few years ago, just with grey accents. I wonder why they continue to keep using the avalir/sentria look knowing it’s repetitive. I can tell that their website is going to need minor changes. The other option i can think is that their milking the system/ platform till 2035 (100 years since the kirby name first appeared on its machines) and then we’ll get an official new platform. Im curious to what the packaging boxes and stuff will look like. They really am shooting themselves in the foot with this one…..

It's Official...

Kirby has run out of new ideas. I guess new ideas weren't part of the intellectual property purchased by Right Lane Industries, or whatever the new parent company is called. Oh well, at least they aren't slapping the Kirby name on a generic plasticrap POS from China and expecting people to pay Kirby prices for it. That would be even more insulting.

Out of new ideas…

I’d like to look at it as if “it’s not broken, so they didn’t fix it.” The only thing I can compare a Kirby to is the Royal upright design that had evolved so little during its lifespan. The only major changes I can think of on the Royals were bigger motors, the different carpet adjustment mechanism and the modified handle release. I think machines like Royal and Kirby can’t keep up with the changes in what consumers want. I mean, it’s 2024 and a Kirby still isn’t low enough to clean under my bed. Even Royal felt the pressure from the changing vacuum market and started to sell models like the Eminence and Privilege to meet the demand for plastic and on-board tools. In my opinion, machines like Kirby are already maxed out on design and functionality. I love the Kirby for what it is/was. It’s like vacuuming with an time capsule artifact. I kinda think kirby is like apple they launch new products every year and they might look the same but inside the do change things

Huh

If it's only so many given how do you aquire a vacuum without winning one.
I like tge color I like the design. It's an American made vacuum still an American company. Hoover sure can't say that. If you want chinesium go hoover.
It's still a dirty fan upright than deep cleans carpets. I want a new handi butler.

Ive seen a few pics posted in a fb chat on the no kirby left behind fb group and the box design is so plain boring. The zippbrush now says the model name, the company name and then below it it says zippbrush. I'm curious to why now kirby decided to do this to us. I mean they've had 6 years to come out with something new and this is what we get. Well the one thing I can say is, is thank god they did away with the giant blue k on the bag like what avalir 2 had on it. To me that was just takey. I do like the whole name along the bag. But I am curious to see how they'll try and sell this model compare to those who have either avalir models or even any recent g series machine within the past 18 years.

on a side note, I do have a few questions. If kirby sells the systems and the optional accessories on the website how does one machine arrive to someones front door. Like for example would it come in a big brown fedex box or ups type box or it is just in its standard kirby box?

Um

I called the local vac shop.

The last time they put ultimate or diamond it atleat had a 3 speed switch for rugs.
I mean it's a sentria 5 avalir 3 etc with black on black.
It like Disneyland has unicorns. They blow bubbles and there is ferries everywhere.

Those where the photos I was talking about. I def don't like all that writing on the zippbrush. I'm curious to see what other accessories have all the writing on them. This one doesn't even have a pattern scheme like all the rest of them.

Juju93, aren't you being a tad bit harsh there? I think the box design and the Zippbrush label look classy - not tacky or overdone. I personally think the Avalir Platinum is a bit too "black" looking for my liking, but it's still a nice machine.

Speaking of favorite Kirby G series colours, I think the G4, G6, the first Sentria and the 100th anniversary Avalir (all black accents) were the best Kirby colour schemes and the best looking of all of them. Of all the non G Series models, the Heritage, Heritage II and 500 series Kirbys were the best looking.

I disagree

I like the blue scheme of the Avalir 2 and the big blue K on the bag. I think it looks sharp and you definitely cannot deny that it's a Kirby. It's probably one of the reasons I decided to buy it. Then again, I liked the Tradition too. :-)
