My condolences to you Rex. We just also had a similar experience at my grandfather's cabin earlier this year. A pipe from the bathroom upstairs bursted sometime during the winter and it flooded the entire place. Everything had to be gutted and completely renovated which is a real shame cause that's one of my favorite places ever. It'll feel a bit different cause we're doing some slight changes to the cabin. One of them is we're not putting new carpets inside, it's all going to be barefloors with some area rugs. Wish we were putting new carpets inside since I'm a type of person that loves carpeting but I understand the reasonings why we aren't doing it this time. And this is one example about Kirby today is more homes are switching over from carpets to barefloors, it'd be hard to convince consumers today especially my grandfather about why they should own a Kirby. There are many other options that can be better suited than Kirby for those types of homes. Even my grandfather's Kenmore would do a better job. Thankfully that one didn't get thrown out from the flood since it was missing for a while but I'm not sure that it works though. Pretty sure it survived but I think the Dustbuster from inside may be a goner. But if the Kenmore lives, I'd like to see if I can retire it for something else. However the insurance won't pay for any replacements inside when I originally thought they were going to and my grandfather still wants the Kenmore since he says that's the best vacuum he's ever used. I did recently saw that Target had the green Kenmore BC3060 200 series on sale for like $169 I believe but they were out of stock. If I see more of those in stock at the same price, I'll probably get one to replace his other Kenmore. But I do prefer the design of the orange 81214 model more, just I don't feel like they're worth spending over $200. Maybe for the red BC4027 model but definitely not for over $300. We'll see though. I do know that my aunt will be giving me her Rainbow E2 Gold so instead of bringing it back home with me, I could just keep it at the cabin to either replace the Kenmore or at least store it as a backup vacuum so my grandfather wouldn't have to go out and get a brand new machine. Speaking of Kirby, if I could give any of my machines to my grandfather at the cabin other than the Rainbow, I can let him have one of my G4s'. Still alot better than buying a new Kirby. At least we can all agree on one thing, a Kirby is better to have than no vacuum at all.
