Hi!

I'm working on writing a restoration guide for vintage Eureka Uprights, and would love to see as many Eureka uprights as possible. What I'd like is a photo of your upright, the model name/number (including any letters), whether it has a plastic handle, and anything else you may know about it. My spreadsheet on the 1400 series is almost there.

Thanks!

I love that royal blue and beige Cordaway with Rugulator! I bet you it's model number is 2085 or something close to that...

I always thought that "CordAway" was a cool term...a play on the word "corduroy"....

Two of my three...

Here are two of mine, a Sanitaire S645 from 2012 and a Eureka ESP model 2190 from around 1982. The Sanitaire has been modified somewhat with a new 40-foot cord and a pair of larger cord hooks to accommodate them, along with a black Dial-A-Nap knob, just because I had it on hand, along with the cord hooks, and liked the look better than the light gray one it came with. The ESP is bone stock with a metal handle and is in beautiful condition. It even came to me with the original instruction booklet.

Not pictured is my Sanitaire SC686 from about 1978, which is in storage and not readily accessible. It's red with a chrome motor cover (no headlight) and four-position Dial-A-Nap knob, which originally had a dump bag so it's not a factory F&G machine. I later retrofitted it with an F&G bag setup. I'm not sure whether what I it's an OEM part or third party. I suspect the latter since it attaches to the motor housing using the same latch mechanism as the dump bag. Another modification it's received is a VibraGroomer II brush roll to replace the original VibraGroomer that had bad bearings.

As a side note, it's funny how often my cat manages to get into the photo when I'm taking pictures of vacuums.

This was a wedding gift in the late 80’s. I do miss her sometimes, but the Vac was way better to keep😂
I believe the handle was replaced. Doing the stairs, she broke the handle. I have the manual, I did a clean up/ mini Resto on it. New cord, bulb, cord clips, and a good cleaning. I buffed the plastic case w/ novus #2. The Vac is now retired, I don’t use it. I did do a Resto thread, Not sure how you pull up old threads, but there’s more info there.
Bummer, I can’t find the hose and tools, they were in a cardboard box when I moved. ☹️

It may have been black at one time and faded over the decades. If you look close to sewn seams, where light wouldn't normally reach, you may be able to get a better idea of its original color.

I like that too. I don’t have very plush carpet, but I’d guess it should do well. It has a deep shag setting. It definitely leaves some nice carpet lines with its powerful agitation.
