Funny post I found on another forum;

"hi, we have a canister vacuum cleaner - the type with a long hose with a pipe attached to the main body. i cleaned up dog poop with it many months ago and ever since then the smell remains in the pipes, and comes out of the other end of the vacuum, when the air gets blown out. any idea how to get this out ?
i tried soaking the pipe overnight in a bucket of water and fairy. it helped a little but not a lot. somehow i think i've got to find a way to scrub inside the pipe, but it is so long. unless i use a broom handle or something"
