I've never seen or heard of the upright bee vac pictured today. Anyone have one, or know anything about them?

It's a kENMORE.....

That is a Kenmore clone, as Birtman Electric; known for their BeeVac house brand, also made most uprights for Sears as well until the advent of the twin-fan Singer built upright machines sometime around 1960 or so.

They were kinda good. I had a Kenmore from about 1948-49 once...two toned brown. I could never figure out it's electrical gremlins tho...it always seemed to zap me every now and then. I've heard...thru yarns spinning that this was a fairly common Kenmore/BeeVac issue.

However I have an earlier one that Jeff Parker and I found many years ago at the ALSIP fleamarket in Ill. and it never zapped me and worked quite well.

So who knows....

Info on Bee-Vac

The Bee-Vac was indeed made by the Birtman Electric company, however, it's a lot older than the 1960's. There were both upright and tank styles made as early as the mid to late 1930's. The Bee-Vac looked a lot like the early Royal, Electro Hygien, Hotpoint and Health-Mor to name only a few. The one I remember best was a straight suction upright with a dark red bag. I was only about 10 when I got to use it and I loved it.

As soon as I get my files out of storage I will be able to give a lot more detail on this and other early electric's.
