That's my favorite model besides the Model 87 with the pushbutton handle switch; I think the fact that it's tilted adds more personality to it! The machine in the POD appears to be from the first run in the late-60's. I've seen ads on eBay for this one dating from 1967.

Fred Stachnik mentioned that the 843 he gave me and that I'm still enjoying is from the second run, approx. 1972. While the top portion is still yellow (with a white handle and bag door gasket), the base is sort of a light tan color which I like MUCH better! Out of all of the Hoover color schemes out there, the chocolate brown/yellow one is my least favorite.

Of course I would not know the actual Hoover color names for these...calling Jeff! :)

Here's a side view of my 843...notice the side-mounted toggleswitch as well. Such a cool machine, and one we'll be playing with this weekend!

They gave this model a new look...even the motor was tilted. It was called "gold tone and seal greige deep" in the first run. It was discontinued around 1970 and a cry from the dealers brought it back until 1975. This model was the longest running model of them all. It appeared in 1967 and went with the 1060 Convertible upright in the same colors. I always thought that this darker brown was a beautiful color combination along with the Convertible of the same year. When it was reintroduced sometime in 1970 or '71 the base became a "taupe" color and the top was painted a brighter yellow...perhaps "ceylon yellow" to match the top of the line Convertible 1076. This was a top line model since the 858 in orange was the more traditional non tilted base model for 1970-75. No this tilted model 843 was only made in these two versions...too bad. By 1975 the Constellation was no more until this year! I hope that Hoover decides to keep the new Connie around and bring out some new colors soon.
