Does anybody have 1 extra Filter Queen filter cone that I can have or buy? This weekend we went to my Grandpas to visit and I found out he has been using an older Filter Queen (Princess II actually,) as a shop vac WITH NO FILTER CONE IN IT!!!! so I thought somebody might have an extra one that I can send him. I went to use it and it was pretty heavy so I emptied it to find there was no filter, so I cleaned it out and told him not to use it. also, does the filter go inside the plastic cage or over it? THANK YOU!!!

filter goes over the plastic cage, you place it in the bin with edges over the side and then place motor/cone onto it. there is also a filter UNDER the cone near the motor. you should be able to find cones at a vac shop, lots listed online, ebay, etc.

They are correct ...

If that FQ has been run without a cone, then the secondary filter under the cone guard will need replaced. It is more than likely blocked, and that will cause the motor to overheat and eventually burn out. With the Filter Queen, If you use the filter cone, and never run it without one, that secondary filter will last a long time, but it still needs replaced periodically. I have a FQ Princess II that I use as a daily driver, and I replace the cone once a month, when I empty the canister, more often if I have to vacuum finer dirt, and replace the motor filter every six months without fail. The internal motor filter is easy to replace. If you look at the manuals page on this web site, It shows how to do it. As was stated by others earlier, most vac shops should carry FQ cones and filters. If not, Genuine FQ maintenance kits are available on eBay for reasonable cost. They include 12 cones and 2 motor filters. This is enough to run the machine for 1 year. I would not use it again until you have both a proper cone, and clean out the motor and replace it's filter as well. I dont have a spare at the moment, but will be ordering again soon. Usually the FQ motor filter is replaced each time you go thru a pack of filter cones-a motor filter is enclosed with each package of filter cones.If you repalce the filter each time you go thru a pack of cones you should have no problems with the motor.Yes,if the machine was run without the cone-the little motor filter has to be replaced.I had to do that with the machine I bought from the yard sale-and used the filter that was in the pack of cones that came with the vacuum.

It amazes me ...

how many people buy TOL vacuums, and don't do simple maintenance on them. Dustin, I'm not talking about your grandfather because I'm sure he didn't know. But since I worked for Kirby, and have repaired many makes and models, of both Kirby and other brands, I have found many people with Filter Queens that don't replace filters and people with Rainbows that never clean the seperator. And then they say the machine is junk because the motor over heats and burns out. Those people, in my opinion, deserve to just go to K-Mart and buy the plastic junk they sell and buy new every couple of years. It makes me sad because with a little care , even a cheap machine will give good service if properly cared for. But that is the throw-away society we live in. so sad.

for this reason exactley, my big pet peve is the belt, mostley the belt is the most simple thing about most vacuums (granted there are some exceptions), and people flippin dont understand that it still is very importiant, the brush roll is what does most of the work of corase, but ive seen some people have something like a oreck and have broken the belt and still used it, and probilbly didint not get that far. it really pisses me off

Oreck with a broken belt

thats what i found at my last job, and was like a cement brick of dirt in the bag. manager compalined about having to use his vac at the store.

i had them order belts and bags, when i went to change belt the old was was so cracked and dried out. had to be that way for a year or so.

I have collected machines from the dump that had rock solid bags and broken belts. I am now beginning to wonder if people who throw these machines away actually know how to change a belt and a bag or if that requires a college course and degree.
