I've been waiting to say this but is it possible to install a plastic fan on older metal base hoover convertibles? Very curious about that. Thanks!

Idk

I don't think they ever made a plastic fan to fit the convertibles. I looked but only found metal for my 913.

I believe that the plastic fans from later convertibles will fit the metal based models. My model 69 had a plastic fan in it when I bought it. I put a metal one back in. They fit the same.

Idk

I have a 913 it came with a metal fan. The convertible came out about the same time the 913 did and there motor setup is similar.
The poster above may be right but a part number would answer the question.

Replacement plastic fans for convertibles have available for years. Much the same way replacement fans for early Kirbys are now only plastic. According to some sources, the plastic fans for the Hoovers were better than the originals due to the improved design of the fan. Better suction and improved air flow.

The sound is slightly different too. The original metal fans are more, "throaty", and the plastic ones are quieter. This is the same for Kirbys also.

One of the nice things about the plastic Hoover Convertible fan is it reduces fan replacement over the metal by a wide margin. It only takes a small chip in a metal fan's blade (just one) to throw the whole thing off balance and destroy the lower bearing.

Most people who replaced their metal fans with plastic never needed to replace their fan again. Not all, but most. The six bladed fan takes abuse much better than the 12 bladed fan.

I personally love the throaty sound on an improved performance hoover convertible as I remember my bicentennial convertible I had back in grade school made a very distinctive secondary sound that I love in a convertible. I have a couple of 6 amp decade motors on 2 rear conversion convertibles that with the metal fan makes that distinctive sound I remember.
But it's all a matter of what you like.
