& a finally for tonight ....

a quick detour into the work of the Commercial division of Hoover.

With the predecessor Senior having had Commercial versions, the new top of the Range Turbomaster was also adapted to have a Commercial spin off model - in the form of the C1314.

Derived from the U5094, the only major difference (that I can remember) was that it boasted a longer cable over the domestic cleaner, to assist the cleaning of offices and schools.

Havent the foggiest idea as to what the official name of the colour scheme is...

The roller brush was also termed 'Quadroflex' which I understood was more suited to a commercial carpet. The main colour was identical to that of the domestic electronic cleaner. The rear of bag unit and handle and so one was much darker.

Hi Benny.

Autoflex - whilst I was dealing with the U5080, right about the time you posted your nudge about the chord rewind, I remembered about the autoflex function on the U5080 and U5096. Perfect timing! :-)

Regards the Turbo2 in deep red - I managed to pick up one of these machines late last year, though it still requires a clean up. Thinking about it, myself and Rob will (weather permitting) have to go upto storage, so I will try and dig it out, give it a clean and get some photos of it for this thread.

C1314 Commercial

see what you mean Benny about the colour.

So the colour is, at the very least, Cotswold Beige and then a kind of Bambi Brown colour! lol.
Its a smart combination and thanks for the info about the Quadroflex beater bar. I have the leaflet for the C1314, but its deep in the wardrobe. I will dig it out tomorrow, photograph it and post it.

The U5096 is one of my favourites. When my parents split up in 97, my Dad bought one of these second hand, so I have very fond memories of it. Unfortunately, when he moved in with his then girlfriend in 99, he left it behind in his old flat in favour of her grey Turbo 2 Autosense. Foolish man!


 


I have some very fond memories behind a lot of these cleaners - some of which I haven't seen in 15 years. The basic red TP U2724 was certainly a blast from the past. A friend of mine from school who lived in a block of flats up the road from us had one of these, but I've not seen one since. I don't suppose they were particularly popular, not being much cheaper than the U2798 and, of course, on-board tools being "the thing to have" of the day.

Quadroflex

On the subject of the Quadroflex brushroll, wasn't this the brushroll that was present on the Turbolite and US Elite cleaners? I wonder why Hoover decided to include this on the Commercial TM.
 
I thought that the Commercial model still used the Activator, despite the "Quadraflex" legend. (Think of the Commercial 'Conquest' models: they had the activator fitted as standard).

And I have a sneaky feeling that the American version of the Turbomaster had the same "Quadraflex" legend with the Activator fitted.
 
Well I must confess I only ever did see one in person and did not see the roller. I am repeating what Hoover said about it in their literature. I did wonder if the roller was in fact the same.

1991 saw the introduction of the final installment of the Turbomaster story, in the form of the flawed Freedom model U5132...

Colour scheme is Ramsey Slate Grey...

Whats inside?

Usual story of dust up the tube and into the box, with air passing through the filter and back into the atmosphere, with dust falling into the dust box at the bottom.

Success of the system depends on the filter a? being good at waht it does and b) always being fitted and seated properly within its fitting.

Any gaps and the syetm will fail to operate properly, with dust escaping back into the atmosphere...

U5132 Turbomaster Freedom

Ingredients of a U5132 - front to back:

the cardboard mesh filter
which fits into the plastic frame (the component on the left)
which clips into the upper front of the bag box (the component on the right)
which clips to the main bag box body
which then fastens to the cleaner....

U5132 Turbomaster Freedom

With the saga of the Freedom cleaners proving embarrassing for Hoover, with complaints being received of cleaners sucking up dust and then spitting it back out again, Hoover developed a conversion kit for the U5132.

All this did was dispense with the permabag system and convert your U5132 into essentially a U5096, but without the autoflex.

The result was the machine below, which is the only converted U5132 I have ever seen and which was purchased from a Head of department from Hoover a couple of years ago.

The story I have previously heard is that the conversion kit comprised of a plain black door, rather than a colour co-ordinated door which the cleaner below boasts.

Soooo, whether the cleaner below is a non-standard prototype-ish conversion - I dont know? ....
