Picked up an Amway Cleartrak

Well, I had never seen one of these before, so I picked it up. Apparantly, it is a Dyson copy, but I daresay it is built much better and is much easier to work on. Apart from having about a pound of hair (uck) clogging every possible area, it seems to work well. Again, I think this thing turned out better than the Dyson. And it's made in the USA. For $10, I'd say I got a good deal.

There was also a Dirt Devil featherlite for $6 that I passed on becuase it had a funky handle, a blue Electrolux L for $20, and a Panasonic upright for $25. I have no room for any of them (hell, don't even have room for the Amway), but I'll pick them up for anyone that wants them.

There was an ugly brown Eureka ESP in near mint shape for $15 that I think I'll pick up for my sister as she needs a vac for college. All it needs is brush strips and a belt.

No thrift store vacuum would be complete without a full bag containing five pounds of dog hair and fifteen pounds of drywall debris.

The Amway is the biggest pain in the butt to work on unless they have changed the design. I always dreaded seeing those come into the repair shop when I was in HS.

Yeah, I pulled the motor last night to clean and rebuild it because it was super dusty. That was a pain, but I'd rather get to the motor in an Amway than a Dyson. There are only screws, not flexible plastic and those stupid plastic retaining rings. The thing is so much more solid and durable. Plus, the belt is easy to replace and is not under insane tension like a Dyson. The one stupid thing about the Amway is that you have to break off and replace a few of those metal retaining caps to get it apart(like the ones that hold the wheels on on a Royal).

The thing that I like is that it was very easy to unclog, and the cyclone comes apart for easy cleaning. It would have taken hours to get the hair out of a newer dyson cyclone if you could have at all.

Anything besides getting to the motor is very easy.

Amway ClearTrak

Yes, I too prefer the design of the Amway ClearTrak/CMS 1000 to the Dyson. They are American made (by Bissell) and have a website that offers every part imaginable (www.cleartrak.com). Everything about the machine is more heavy-duty, and the cyclone is much easier to clean. The CMS-1000 was the first bagless available here in the states. Dyson sued Amway for stealing his design.
