Happy Ending Golden J story : When i was a kid in the mid 1970s, my father took a job 500 miles away from family and friends,,i was horrified and miserable by this chain of events,,and also vacuum crazy by this time.
A few months after the move, One day my Grandmother back home called to tell me that she had just bought a New Electrolux! (Be still my aching heart!) I would be going "Home" to stay with my grandparents for the summer soon, and now was even more excited!
Sure enough, she had a brand new Electrolux Golden Jubilee, complete with the 50th Anniversary stickers on the back of the machine, and on the top of the PN. The hose was white with the blue and i think gold tracer line spiraled around it.
Of course i was in LOVE with the new Lux,,and grandma was good about letting me use it.She knew i was vacuum crazy, and she had a large home with wall to wall 1960s sculptured carpet, and carpeted stairway, so of course it was my job to do the vacuuming, which was fine with me! All we had at home was a lousy old Hoover Connie, and a Hoover DAM, that were both problematic, and in my young mind, low on the todem pole of vacuums! They certainly were NOT anything like a NEW ELECTROLUX!
I remember the exhaust of the Golden J had that "Electrolux" smell to it,,and the motor was really powerful and quiet.
As the years passed, every time i came home to visit,,there was the Golden J, my old friend, waiting for me. Id do the stairway, and eventually the whole house with the Golden J, just loved using it.
In the late 1990s when Grandma went to the Rest Home, the day came for us to clean out her house. Of course i took the old Golden J home with me after cleaning her house with it for the last time.
Yes, i still have it as part of my collection. The old hose is gone, and the PN finally wore out,,but the machine is still going strong,,if not a little tired now in 2011. I do use it ocasionally just to hear the sound of the motor and smell the exhaust and reminesce,,the exhaust still has the Electrolux smell to it.
Its like a visit with an old friend.
