Pete goes a-thrifting to Stratford

I'll start this thread for Pete because he didn't bring his camera.

Rainstorms and funnel clouds continue to whip up across Southern Ontario and yet it was sunny and warm all day here, while over in Kitchener and London they say it was thunderstorming. Thgus Pete has limited time but did, I'm sure, enjoy the scenic route here and back.

Never been to my house, so after the Tour, which can take hours, believe me, we headed over to the ReStore - closed - and to the Goodwill Store. There was some stuff of not much interest but of course Davy managed to snag a few things. Pete has stopped at the Sally Ann on the way in.

Went on a winding drive around the town admiring the grand and less grand neighborhoods and around the Park & Lake.

So, the rule being 'one in, one out', I put two Panasonic Jet Flos in Pete's trunk and he put that Electrolux AP100 & PN & trigger hose he got the other day, as he already has that model set. Happy to receive and immediately noticed subtle differences between the two AP100s. Ferinstance,m one has a textured plastic body and the other is smooth & shiny - same color. The suction dial is different, too. And the real surprise was when he hauled out a Model B-26 collapsible Floor Polisher in brown & cream. The one with the triple brushes. runs great but the cordwinder wasn't working. No problem, as I have that bashed & trashed B-2101 from the Woodstock curb for parts. I have the green B-21 but its brush gears are stripped and the beater will supply those.

Took the B-26 apart and the winder spring was missing. Donor machine supplied that, gave it the magic Eraser bath and it's real pretty now. Even better, the B-26 came with the floor scrubber/waxer brushes, which I didn't have for the B-21. Cool.

Did not take many pictures and they came out shaky but...here's Pete running the Hoover Self Propelled Tom & I found in North Canton.

I had switched the camera to video when Pete started playing the upright piano. He can PLAY, folks! he also gave the Mark-O-Sonic Mark II spinet organ a workout.

Upstairs I think the Hoover Canadian Model 281 was the hit...

I know someone was able to identify those aluminum tools up front with the blue banding many posts ago but Pete & I forget what machine they go with????? the white stripe turned out to be masking tape and the blue rubber cleaned up nice.

The dark green Bakelite Moth Chrystal attachment is also still a mystery item.

Now I have the Canadian trigger hose for them and a pale yellow PN. I think there's a later AP-200 came in Yellow...dang it! Now I have to find one of those...

When Pete left I set to work on the hose. It was disconnecting power when tugged.

This is the one with the micro switch. Problem was when it was last 'repaired' the 'Service Person' didn't push the tiny pin all the way in and one side was lifted on an angle allowing the rear contacts to lift off the conductor ring. Easy fix. Hose Weave is inmuch better shape than my other AP hose and it doesn't leak much.

A few minutes after Pete left while I was bringing in the polisher & stuff, this gorgeous Chrysler came cruising down my street - its the pride & joy of the elderly Taxi Business owner up the street.

After the hose repair I had a powersnooze on the couch and Felix curled right up in my beard all cute & stuff. At last I had the camera in my pocket.

First time Pete has seen 9 month old Gigantor Felix since he found him for me as a kitten...

I'm back. I had a lovely day considering I don't travel well and luckily missed all the nasty weather. Most of it had blown on by and stayed south a few miles. I made it to the GoodWill in London and thereupon found a nice little metal bodied Eureka RotoMatic with all the attachments but they wanted $29.99 and I wouldn't pay that much so it's still sitting there. Thence over to the Value Village but no values were to be found alas. From there I made it to the seedier part of east Dundas and hit a couple of thrifts and still came out empty handed, ah well.
I got my Panasonic with electronic speed control from Dave and I'm happy happy happy. It's model MV6230 an exact match to my 6210 except for having the sequential light up speed control which makes it fun. Here they are side by side
In the first pic you can see lit segments for high speed, there are five lights

Oh I forgot, I did get an old EverRain metal lawn sprinkler at the thrift store in Stratford for 59 cents. Haven't tried it yet, hope it works, I'm having no luck with all those new cheap plastic ones.

AP100

My aunt had an AP100 the same colour as the one on the right except hers was the basic model. It did not have the dirt adjustment dial nor did it have the bag light or a cord winder. There was just a rectangular piece of plastic indicating where the light would have been. She also didn't purchase the optional power nozzle.

Doug Smith has the answers.

"The tools are from a US Universal and the vaporizer is from a Canadian President - made by Bylock in England. The US Presidents, while looking similar, had black parts instead of blue and were made by Apex.

The AP100 with the smooth sides and name embossed on the side is the earlier (1973) model and would have had the plastic power head (PN V). The other one is the later model"

The textured later AP-100 has no Electrolux script on the sides, it's been moved to the blower filter cover on top.

Both these machines run side by side have the exact same motor pitch and pull an identical 70 inches - that's a Canadian Electrolux for ya.

I really like the photo of that Chrysler- not so much because of the car (which is great, don't get me wrong), but because of that window visible just above its front fender. I'm referring to the window with the air-conditioner in it. That's the first time in a very long time that I've seen a proper wooden storm window, much less the bracket to prop it in the open position during warmer weather! Is that your house, by any chance?

I am so glad to hear someone else admit he doesn't travel well! I hate travel worse than a cat, and I get so tired of the snarky comments from people who do like to travel. If they want to travel, let 'em. Just leave me to my home and my comforts.

Felix's approach to inter-species togetherness reminds me of my Tony! A snuggly, cuddly, affectionate cat is a pleasure, eh?

Not my house but is on the diagonal corner from mine. That picture is timeless as it could easily be Andy Hardy's neighborhood in 1948. assuming stop signs have always looked like that.

I was going to remark on that house's climate control solution - the air conditioner went in only last summer and only for that one room. The past 10 years the owners have relied solely on opening out the first and second story storms on that angle for cross ventilation and pulling the sun-appropriate curtains during the day.

The picture looks Southwest. I have a large corner tree that helps shade the west side of my house but the south & east facing front is in full sun. I'm a confirmed heat & humidity sissy and solve that by running two portable 9000 btu dehumidifiers on low 24/7, one on each floor to keep it dry and cool. The folks across the street have the advantage of several backyard mature trees shading their southern exposure from dawn to sunset.

Now that I have 4 examples of Canadian Electrolux Three Brush Triple Action Floor & Carpet Conditioner washer/scrubber/waxer/polishers and a few manuals I can be fairly certain about dating them.

First off, it is clear that the various models were enameled & color plastic cast to co-ordinate with Canadian Electrolux vacuums available.

The first iteration of the triple polisher with the balls on the T handle appears on the last page of the 1953 ZB55/56 manual, gleaming in polished aluminum and steel.

It appears again, being driven by a different lady, in what appears to be shiny chrome (tho it may very well be colour-matched Red) in the last pages of the 1957 Eluxomatic ZB 88 manual - the one with no perimeter bumper. This would be the one in back in my picture above.

The new B style first appears, in Red & Cream, in the 1961 manual for the Eluxomatic ZB 88 with the white bumper surround. It is Model B-20.

The green Model B-21 is shown on the back cover of the 1967 ZB 89 manual.

In the 1973 AP100 manual, it is now called the Model B-22 and is color matched in shades of biegey pink & cream, with a restyled shiny aluminum Logo strip in a rubber 'frame' across the motor housing.

Based on this progression, I can guess that the brown & cream Model B-26 from Pete appeared in 1978, matching the AP-280.

The AP200 was a jaundice yellow & cream so perhaps the B-25-26 came in yellow, too.

With the introduction of the second plastic body series, E-2000 in 1982, the motor hood undergoes a redesign and the deck & motor shroud are now plastic rather than cast aluminum/magnesium.

The 2021 I have as a parts donor is colored to match the gray/biege vacuum.

For the record, I too LOATHE everything about flying, especially airports. So much confusion, chaos, idiots who can't drive, poorly marked signs of every type and situated in such as way as to be absolutely useless; and now with the added burden, hassle, inconvenience and demoralization of "homeland security" where little old ladies are obliged to expose their bloomers so that there's no hint of "profiling," well, really. Who needs it.

And the planes. Unless you are of sufficient means to afford first-class, you get shoved into a seat that only a midget-hunchback would find comfortable. Every plane will be packed to capacity -- fat chance of getting an empty seat next to yourself as you often used to be able to get. Then, like as not the people on either side of you will be smelly, have bad breath, and be too cheerful and want to blabbety-blab all the way there. Then there are the screaming babies and bratty toddlers. And forget decent onboard service anymore, to say nothing of the crap food you're served, for which you now have to pay for. And now with most airlines charging for every extra checked bag above one piece.

Horrors.

That's the one big drawback of being a traveling musician. Having to fly to venues.

My idea of an ideal vacation: STAYING HOME.
