Paper Filter Bags for Kirby Sanitronic VII

Our Dyson just died and I've had this old Sanitronic laying around in the garage for years. I tested it a few months ago and gave it a general cleaning. It's POWERFUL and so I'm wondering how it's vacuum ability might compare to the Dyson on smooth floors (tile and VCT).

From what I've read some of these didn't have anything but the cloth bag and that's a non-starter for me. I want a paper bag in there to keep the dust from blowing through the zipper, etc...

Question is which bag? I did some research on eBay and there was talk about "original" vs. "replacement" vs. "aftermarket" bags. I'm not an antique collector; I just want to put this thing to work. What's a good, cheap, off-the-shelf-at-Walmart bag to use? I see "Type F" repeated but don't want to spend money on something that won't work.

Can you post

a photo of the cloth bag? If it is a traditional Kirby setup, it won't take paper filter bags. It sounds like yours may have an aftermarket setup designed to take Eureka F & G paper bags.

Conversion Bags for Kirby were not made by Kirby

Hello All and Kirby_Owner,
This type of Zip Bag will use F&G Eureka type paper bags. To the best of my knowledge they were never ever manufactured by Kirby. I believe Kirby would get upset if you put one on your new Kirby back in the day.
There are several conversion bags on eBay but they do not include the bag adapeter ring such as in the pictures below. The ring may not be needed but then I don't know for sure. I think your Kirby would use the type for 3 pin mount as in the last 2 pictures.
I have had the ones in the pictures for 30 years or more.

Idea

You could put blower coupler on the exhaust attach 1.25 or 1.5 inch fill tube top of it use for style adapter. You have fill tube take hepa bags. I might do something similar for 505-512 so I have a bag I can use and not fill up nice bags.

The best long-term fix is to use a mini-emtor/bag/fill tube assy from the Heritage II (?) to Legend II. These will take the latest hepa disposable bags. I did this to my Omega and my mom's D50 and they work great. I have seen sets on ebay for 30-40 bucks, less the disposable bags. Super simple to install too. As long as it has the large round connector at the disposable bag, it will work.
Get pictures of what you have now and what you plan to get and we can tell you it it will work.

Idea 2

I figured it out. I glue tape or screw blower to mini emptor and I can use on my 505 508 and 510. I might use my black top fill bag instead of heritage 2 bag.
But mini emptor is best way to go other set ups cut off circulation are cheap and messy to boot.

I'm having problems with the toolbar at the top of this window. I can't get it to quote "Pete's" post, so I'm going to do the best I can.

My bag looks just like the bag/view in the 3rd photo. I have a zippered cloth bag and at the bottom there's an oval tube with a spring where the paper bag attaches. It looks exactly like that.

Yes it will work. The setup will restrict air flow giving less power but it will work.

Yep, you can definitely use those. Royal Type A bags will also work (they're the same thing as Eureka F&G).

If you want to use modern Kirby bags, order a Kirby Generation-series fill tube (on eBay, for example), then attach it to the spout in the bag using a steel hose clamp, and now you can use modern Kirby HEPA bags.

Since you are already happy with the power of this Kirby then the airflow restriction won't bother you, just know if you put a heritage II mini emptor bag system on it it will greatly improve the airflow and power.
The F-G bags can be found at most walmart/amazon/ebay/and all vacuum shops. They are a cheap bag. If you want to use Hepa cloth bags without converting anything look for Koblenz hepa bags. They are the same thing as the F-G bags but are Koblenz brand. Good luck. You have a tank of a vacuum there. A real work horse from the early/mid 60s

Invest in the Heritage II disposable bag set up. It is well worth the money. It will be a far better performer than with any after market set up and or the original shake out bag. I have used it on older machines and was impressed.

Since you are in San Antonio (a big city), keep an eye on craigslist for Heritage II and Legend vacs that have the disposable bag setup. Here in DFW, it is easy to find decent machines for around 50 bucks. Then you will have a backup vac as well as the good bag assy!

It is the shake-out bag versions of the cleaners you mention that are rarer.

However, I have seen numerous Traditions and even some Heritage Is that had the F&G conversion bag systems!

Ben, Have you got the right quote? I never recommended the F&G conversion, never would to anyone.
The Heritage II to Legend II setups are the only recommendations I will make, and those are common. In fact I am itching to buy that $50 Legend II set I saw....
But you do make a good point... If one considers buying a Heritage II to Legend II for the disposable bag system, they should make sure it IS for the disposable bags, and not the dump variety.

I forgot to mention

Hello All and Kirby_Owner,
If the conversion zip bag does not breath easily as the one I have pictured in this Post, it will defiantly cause air flow restriction. Also the seal on the adapter may be no good and need replacing which is also pictured. The inner sleeve could have gotten hard and cracked causing dust and dirt leaks as pictured. The red bag in my first post needs a new seal in the adapter. I believe the seal would be the same as the Emptor seal. Please know I am not making any recommendations just pointing this out. An Emptor could also need that same seal and the felt seal for the bottom door, I do not remember the correct name so I called it a door, the lets the dirt out. For some reason I tend to not like the look of the older Kirby with these conversion bags. I am still looking for an Emptor for my Kirby 509 and that little red knob that goes on the back of a Kirby 519 Emptor.
With all this being said, an older Kirby with a good bag, good brush roll, new belt and good seals a great upright vacuum.

I would definitely recommend using the Heritage/Legend II Mini Emtor setup. Last known part number for the complete bag assembly was #187189S.

I have a Kirby that had one of those horrible "conversion" bags-put an orig bag assembly on the machine-FAR BETTER!!!!Forget these conversion bags.The Kirby was a D80.Had an extra bag assembly laying around-came from a gone out of business Kirby place.

I found a solution for 505 - 513 2 prong emptors. If you look at my post above I used heritage 2 mini emptor bag setup and the exhaust blower adapter for older machines I siliconed it on mini emptor. I'm sure there are few different variations you could use but with set up I have its basically the exact same as heritage 2. I did this set up so my 505 508 510 I can use and not ruin original bags.
Texas kirby guy has a setup all his own. It seems like a good setup I'm just not as creative. The link to his 505 is below and pics of bag are near the bottom.
