Panasonics on Walmart.com

That absolutley Infuriates me.....The Panasonic line is good, but why are they selling at Wally-Mart. There is no way the Independent dealers can out sell them at those prices. The commercial unit is like $189.00. THe mark-up is low at the that rate.

Like I said and I'll say it agian the Mom/Pop retailers are going to the way side. The only thing that will keep the small guy alive is doing Built-In Vacs.

Check this out Vau-finder

If seeing Panasonics on Wal-Mart's website makes you upset, then how does seeing Sebo's on Wally World website make you feel. Oh keep searching their site. They have Shark, Panasonic, Oreck, Dyson, Sebo, Hoover, Metropolitan, Eureka, Hoover, Dirt Devil. They have quite a bit!! Amazing isn't it. See and we wonder why quality is dropping on everything!!

I see and get the point. One of my best jobs ever was working in a Vacuum Store.
Had fun with customers, enjoyed repairing Vacs, selling Vacs, accesories and so forth. The day was never, NEVER, EVER BORING......aN 8 HOUR DAY was like a short walk in the park. Some people think that why Vacuums. What other Appliance can you have so much fun with.
The job never paid much, but most days were a riot.!!!!!!!!

The reason Walmart can sell those Panasonics so inexpensively is because they are made in China. They outwardly resemble the 1990's metal handle Panasonics made by Matsushita USA, but they are not copies. They are much more simply made. The floor nozzle especially. No handle release pedal, just a spring and detent that you push away with your foot. For the price, they are pretty good machines but nothing like a Japanese or USA-made Panasonic. In my opinion, it's better than a low-end Chinese Dirt Devil or Bissell.

Below is a picture of a Chinese Panasonic model MC-UG 383 02, similar to the $89 model in the Walmart ad. Sometimes people who buy refurbed vacs from me give me their duds and that's how I came by this one. I replaced the broken belt, cleaned it up, installed a new bag and it's ready to go out again. Somebody with the "I want to buy something lightweight" story will buy it.

I looked at some of those higher end uprights on Walmart.com and noticed that some of them are being sold by a company other than Walmart. I don't understand why they are on Walmart's web site though. Sears does the same thing.

Gary, that Panasonic in your photo looks a lot like the red Kenmore I used to have. The 1990s ones actually did lack a foot pedal as well, and just had that pad as the new ones do. I thought it was a cheap release design but it worked alright.
I don't doubt that the motors in the new ones are way cheaper than the older ones had.
