hi folks
after finally getting some info and pics on the Trident! i am trying to identify a lux cylinder that my neighbour had. The family moved in next door to us and i immediately got friends with the 2 daughters 1 abit older 1 a bit younger than me. They used to keep playing "long haired lover from liverpool" on their Dansette which was high in the charts at the time ... to give some idea of the year.... havent looked it up but 1972 ish? Anyway while round there i immediately sussed out the family vac, of course which was an Electrolux cylinder... i dont think it was the z80 because it had a white "seesaw" switch going across not longways as opposed to the z80/Trident foot press. the switch had grooves across each side. It seemed to be a more sky blue than the 80. They didnt seem to look after stuff and it was a bit battered the handle was missing and it used to be carried upstairs by the hose ( very much the same hose as the blue Trident) and there seemed to be just a hole with no filter. The cord (grey) plugged in under the exhaust in the usual z30-onwards style with its 2 diagonal flat pins and it had a long hose handle (dont remember a suction valve think it was just plain) a single extension tube and white flipover floor tool with white plastic lux crevice. white end caps, and thats all i remember. Again the once it was brought round for my dad to fix and he did and tested it with our z55 cord. im sure it had the z80 style lux logo on... Anyone recognise the model?

cheers Mike

i think the 77 i think the 2 remaining bits of the broken handle seemed to be on the side ... did this have the same switch as the above one? and sky blue vinyl?

fyi on the bbc tv show good neighbours, or in the uk the good life, snobby next door neighbor margo had a 77 in blue. she got mad cus it kept whistling at her when she used it !!! thats the bag empty signal.

Joe / Si,

It was a UK luxomatic ZC90 and the embossed white acrylic lettering on the side of the machine had been taped over.

Margo had trundled it into the Goods' kitchen in a two wheeled round basket type of shopping trolley / trug.

Mike, Do you remember what wattage was for the Z77 ?

I seem to remember it was around 375 which was much the same as the Z64 which I pressume it superseded ?

I seem to remember a neighbour collecting 'Embassy coupons' for one and was rather disappointed with the suction, shame she smoked herself like a laboratory beagle for it !!!!!!

Hi Walter

yes mate i remember our neighbours z77 and im sure that was the one now thanks to Mike, seemed to be very basic maybe it was a cheaper model at the time, i said i didnt think there was a filter didnt i? the manual says its behind the dust bag. and cloth bag only, by 1967 the paper insert kit was well underway with other lux cylinders, no sprayer or hose handle suction control, and just basic tools, mind i do like it!

As the budget model, it did not have the plastic handgrip of the more expensive models. It was rated at 400watts - same as the first (more expensive) 80. I know the 80 was later uprated to 550 watts, but cannot say the same about the 77. It was also the first UK lux to use a flip over nozzle, as also the first one to use this type, which carried on for years. I know, a flip over thread picker was common right back to the 1920s, but this was the first, complete flip over

thanks Al

yes mate, the blue one is definately the one our neighbour had! however im sure their switch was white rather than blue but thats just a small thing. Thanks so much for posting this

Actually, my recollection was that the switch was blue, as with mine - it also matches the trim around the end covers. However, it is perfectly possible that it was replaced at some time through wear or that Lux simply changed the colour at some point, as they often made minor changes throughout a model's life. I was surprised that the switch on the 64 was blue as well though, so that may have been changed during its life.
