Hey everyone. I was just at Target for the first time in a few months and noticed they are now selling Orecks. The have also COMPLETELY stopped selling the Hoover Platinum series! The light weight, bagless, stick vac, and hand vac which were all there last time I was were gone. Also noticed the new Bissell that is a Vax/Bosch copycat. And, a beautiful new white Dyson DC25.... I wanted to buy that sucker so bad! They also had a Dyson canister with turbine head (I thought the non-electric DC11 didn't work out in the US... what are they trying to do?). And, a red Eureka power nozzle canister with quick release wand and bare floor tool. I was pretty shocked to see all the new machines there! I've never seen a power nozzle canister there... but Orecks in a big box... what is the world coming to? I did like the way the model with a headlight looked, and the bag looks HUGE. They had a green base model with no light and a black model with light and portable canister. They had a dismal selection of bags and belts though... barley any accessories at all. Mostly filters for bagless machines. I guess today when a belt breaks, people just buy a new vacuum.

Anyone else stroll through the vacs at Target lately?

went tonight, ours has a shark with a cloth bag on the front, and headlight. looks like a riccar superlite. its advertised as an 8 lb vac. the white dyson sounds awesome.

Orecks at Target

Bobby,
I went to our Target and you are RIGHT! The Hoovers are gone and they have a new display with several (5) of the new Dysons including the canister. They also have 2 Orecks and the canister. I saw several new Bissells including the brand new model and a Eureka canister with power nozzle.
Then went to WalMart. They have a new display of Eureka's,Bissells and even the new Electrolux upright and the Hoovers are much fewer and displayed on the isle like a close out.

Big changes in just a week!!!

Here in Tucson...

they just opened a new Super Target (or whatever the name is). They have the Hoover Platinums, but I ALSO saw the Orecks there. That was a shock. I have not seen those nice Dysons yet.

Orecks at Target

I'd like to know which models are being sold at Target. I don't see any listed on the website as of yet. One thing's for certain - it's gonna wreak havoc for the Oreck dealerships, especially if either model comes with a tune-up agreement. The Dysons are nice looking as well, although like everything else they sell I'm sure waaaay overpriced, more than I'm sure Target customers will want to spend.

Our Costco has an Oreck package with an upright and the small canister vac for $300 or so. An attractive charcoal/black combination. I didn't look too closely as I didn't need a vacuum ;-) but was a little surprised to see them there. And now Target?? The Oreck dealers might be a bit miffed at that offering but the service will keep the cash-cow alive.

The Eureka Canister has been at my Target for a long time now. I have been tempted to get it. And I have been eyeing that Shark! I thought that was real neat. Look's like I will have to make a trip to Target this week:P

"But the service will keep the cash-cow alive"

Not if these vacuums have free tune-up agreements. Oreck doesn't reimburse the licensees one dime for doing tune-ups on vacuums that weren't purchased at that dealership. Only if the dealership can find something else wrong with the machine can they make any money off of it. Really a shame Oreck is now being marketed through so many channels. Quite a contrast from 12 years ago, when Mr. Oreck told independent vacuum shops either sell only Oreck or you can't sell my product at all. Nowadays, it would seem as if everybody and his brother is selling Orecks.

Orecks in PS

Strolled through our Target today and saw the Orecks of topic. There was also the new Electrolux upright and the Bissell/Vax/Bosch vacuum. The red Eureka canister/PN has been at our Target for months now. Last year they had the Eureka Air Extreme canister/PN for the same price ($149.00)in blue and I couldn't resist that one. Works very well!

The Hoover Platinum series vacuums are also gone from the display. They still have the stick vacuum however. The Dyson Blueprint vacuum really looks nice.

Do all the Orecks have the tune-up agreements? I was in Target the other night but didn't have time to peruse the vacuum aisle (imagine!) so I didn't even get to check if the Orecks were stocked. I have three Orecks right now and have had several over the years for the business. I've been bowled over by the prices on the spare parts - and bags, to the point that I had one I tossed in the dumpster rather than spend a fistful of cash on parts. Perhaps the parts & bags pricing will come down if the manufacturing numbers keep rising with the added sales.

Perhaps, but IMHO, Target will only offer bags and belts for the Oreck if anything. No, not all the Orecks have tune-up agreements (like many that are designed for and sold exclusively through QVC), but like I say, Mr. Oreck won't make any friends with the licensees if he offers free tune-up agreements on machines bought at Target. I agree some Oreck parts can be costly - but nowhere near as bad as what Dyson gouges customers for spare parts. What's worse, in some states (New York, for example) Dyson will not sell you the parts directly, you have to go through an independent third party who inflates the prices even more.

Oreck's at Target ??

Seems like I just posted that last night on Rob's thread 7487 ? Everyone was so wrapped up in the Dysons, guess
no one noticed ! Should have started a new thread !
OH well, happy vacuuming to all and to all a good night !
