My oreck xl keeps breaking belts even tho I just replaced the brush roll
Now I'm at a loss

Is the spindle worn down?

Spindle looks brand new

Brushroll seated properly? OEM Belts used? Carpet pile too thick and dense? Carpet backing non breatheable?

Those are all important factors. Mainly what carpet you have. Non-genuine or improperly fitted parts will result in snapping belts.

When everything is installed can you turn the brush roll easily or is maybe something binding a bit due to a misalignment somewhere?

I assume you didn't touch the motor but if the motor is somehow slightly misaligned it might chew up belts.

Like everyone I learn the hard way. I had a geared belt Hayden Deluxe power nozzle that chewed through geared belts and that ain't supposed to happen. Turns out the motor was ever so slightly misaligned and the motor pulley was eating belts. A great example of what's called the Peter Principle: experience varies with the amount of equipment ruined. I am the Peter Principle Poster Boy O_O
