Awww

This is sad. I really like Oreck machines. Now they are gone. They can be collectors items some day I bet though

once again...

We saw this in the last presidential election. The sheep think that "filing for bankruptcy" automatically means that company will be gone forever and all workers will be forced to find another job. WRONG! Brankruptcy can actually be a good thing! Many companies have filed for bankruptcy and have emerged strong and ready to tackle the competition again.

Oreck is not gone

They are recovering. They have been in hardship since Katrina in 2005. Then the great "recession" has hit everyone hard.

GM and Chrysler are still here, they filed Bankruptcy in 2009. Can't say what it did to the resale value of my Jeep, but Chrysler is still here, and Oreck will be too.

Sorry to derail the subject but,

Gm was the only reason for Saab existing to this day. Gm bought out Saab ten years ago when it was failing. It was struggling after that. When Gm went under it had to get rid of Saab. Saab is now owned by a Chinese company who plan on making electric cars. My dad has worked with Gm for years and he knows about them .

Good for your Dad but...

Sorry I worked for SAAB for a short time after being with Volvo in their diplomat sales office and before leaving the company moving to SAAB. Left when I was 23 in 2000. I would suggest having kept an eye on the company that whilst GM may have saved SAAB initially, they didn't do enough to promote the cars or inspire to the same quality that SAAB wanted with any of their products. GM didn't have a clue. They had enough money as investment but did little with the Swedish brand.

Well at least they're still selling in the UK, albeit massive price reduction. What used to cost £249 last year at John Lewis is £100 off the list price - saw two models in JL's Glasgow's store on reduction today. Not sure about the cost of bags though - 8 for £22-95! Ill stick with my Vax VCU-02 upright then since the bags are far cheaper for the same amount....

My deepest and sincerest sympathies.

GM did not buy SAAB for some altruistic endeavor, they bought them to gut them and throw them away. If they had some technology they could use *which they didn't) all the better.

GM divested,or shall we say orphaned SAAB in the same way Chrysler did Mitsubishi. They were pouring good money after bad then they didn't have any money to throw at it.
