I was just wondering what the community thought of the Oreck Edge?
Refurbished models popped up on eBay direct from Oreck for only $120.
My main floor is mostly hardwood and area rugs. I currently use an Electrolux 3500SR upright, which I adore. But I've kinda got that itch for a new machine, and thought the light weight and on board hose would be handy.

Any thoughts or experience with this one?

I think I am one of the only one who owns the ORECK Edge .
I actually like the machine it has a variable speed motor cleans really well and is
heavier than other Orecks . I purchased the one without the attached hose as I don't use
attachments with most direct air vacuums . I only use attachments with my KIRBY vacuums .

Jason...

I was working part-time for Oreck at the time the Edge hit the showrooms. I believe that was our first China made upright. The one with the attached hose had pitiful suction, and lacked the ability to change attachments on the hose end, leaving only the edging crevice tool. Those models were problematic from the beginning with a diverter in the base unit that was supposed to divert the suction from the floor to the hose. They later removed the useless hose, those are usually available for 99.00 on the ebay Oreck site. One issue I had when I first tried it was the rear wheels tended to raise up off the floor when pulling it backwards. You had to dial down the suction/motor and vacuum carefully to prevent that from happening. They became such a pain, that we only had a demo on the floor, and special ordered them only if the customer insisted on one. It was a unique design, attractive, but not a big seller, nor great reliability. I have quite a few Orecks in my collection, but that is one I passed on, as I did the Oreck Quest Pro that came out to replace the great Dutchtech, huge mistake for canister fans. The full size Quest Pro is nothing but a TTI rebadged Anniversary Windtunnel canister, also very problematic for various reasons. To me the Edge, and the Quest Pro starting giving Oreck a bad rap as far as reliability.

I found a video comparing the Oreck Edge to the Dyson DC14. Looks good, but I have my doubts about fairness of this test...

Boy, Im sure glad I asked first! I think I would have been disappointed. I'll just stick with the good ole Electrolux.

That test does not surprise me. Back in the day when the DC14 was the current Dyson, our local franchise purchased one for each of the seven Oreck stores here. We used kapok and crushed Rice Crispies for our demos. Any of the Oreck uprights would outperform the Dyson. It also gave the customer the chance to check out the Dyson without going to another store.
