Yes, and no. I have a Whirlpool CVR-2000 that on the underside reads "Distributed by the Oreck Corporation." This vacuum (and the subsequent XL-4000 was made for Oreck by MacDonald electric in West Germany. It's really a fun little cleaner.

I saw one of those at Habitat once. I wish I had gotten it, they really seem ahead of their time.

Interesting that the whole Oreck concept was actually born in West Germany. For years, I’ve been dreaming that Miele would come out with an improved Oreck clone to market as a companion to their suction-only canisters. Add Miele’s expertise in filtration and sound reduction to the design and I’m sure they could create an innovative lightweight deep carpet cleaning machine.
