one of my dream machines

Hello vacuum lovers! This past weekend I brought home one of my dream vacuums. It is an All original Hoover Convertible 66 from 1958- 1960. This was the official 50th anniversary model. My goodness, this vacuum is 50 year old!!! Thanks to Jeff Parker for that info. This is an early edition of the 66 because of the spring on the bag. The early had the same type of spring as the 65 and 31. Later in production they introduced the spring loaded latch hook thing that was on the rest of the narrow top bags throughout the 60,s. Also this machine was the first to sport the narrow top bag. I love this machine because, well it's a convertible first of all but what I really love is the fact that it's green! This and the 69 were two of my dream machines. OUt of the whole Jeff Parker list of metal convertibles (about what 40 or so machines) I only need about 12! I will reach that goal.

I went to Wichita Kansas (about two hours away) to do some thrifting and such. I met up with Jason Huber whom lives up there. He works at the vacuum shop with the 66. We fits faught for it and I won. You should see Jason now! I knocked out 167 teeth and broke 73 ribs. na just kidding Jason was a good sport and let me have it. (I think maybe because he knew I would have kidnapped him and tied him up and tossed him over the bridge for it. No really he got it first and saved it for me because I am the convertible nut. All it cost me was the price the vacuum shop wanted for it plus to get it from Jason he wanted my badly beatin' up Regina Brush 'N' Beat. The convertible came from a lady who bought it new and trded it in on a new Simplicity. Imagine have the same vacuum every week for 50 years before you decide to trade it for a new one. Simplicity is a GREAT vacuum but I doubt it lasts 50 years. Here is a pic of the Regina with the broken handel top and no brushroll, also missing wheel. It does turn on though lol. Phillip

Aren't you lucky!

Wow, that wonderful green Convertible, and the other two vacuums are pretty neat too. I couldn't imagine anyone in this area turning in that Hoover in for a new one. Our last remaining old name shop in this county tosses old vacs they get. I think most things get thrifted when the customer shops for a new cleaner.

I am so envious and happy for you! The Hoover Conv. #66 is one of the last Hoovers I'm looking for to fill my line up. You are a lucky guy, especially with getting it from the org. owner.

I have this cleaner. No bag, white replacement hood. So, farfrom original, but, who knows. I have the ad for it too.

I just polished the hood with turtle wax and it looks very beautiful

Wow Phillip!

You got yourself a very nice Hoover Convertible there. They usually do not fare that well over the years since folks don't often take care of them. I can't imagine keeping a vacuum for that long and then just giving it up. I wonder why she traded it? Do you think it was the weight or maybe it needed serviced?
